People need to look past the low price as well as the effect on the economy
and focus on the catastrophic climate consequence of failing the goal of
emission reduction to zero in the near future.
Earth was a jungle type temperature that dinosaurs thrived in before it was hit by a meteor... its going back to its natural state. Canada is already net zero because of trees and running the economy into the ground won't make a dent. If you think drinking out of cardboard straws will somehow prevent the planet from returning to its natural state have fun.

The best thing we could do is to go back to steam powered trainscanf horses. Electric cars and most everything coming out of China has a way bigger footprint than a gas powered car.

And you think Canadians will come rushing to buy Chinese EVs....LMAO..
At 8k a car, they'll line up
The problem with tesla is that their product is an epic piece of crap. As soon as you figure out that you need to turn on thecradio and go thru a menu to unplug the charging cable or open the passinger door you'll never buy one. If they wanted success tgey needed to build a 1978 civic with a push button electric start and ditch all the extra junk.

Did Japanese cars in the 1970's encounter the same same resistance Chinese ev's are currently encountering in the North American market?

There is a possibility that Carney may negotiate assembling the cars in Canada. If the Chinese agree to it, no doubt that in the near future when these tariffs are booted out by a more sane President, then China will definitely benefit from cars assembled in Canada and then shipped to the USA!!
Just a prediction based on whether there is deal with China. The cars manufactured in China are really well advanced and at a very reasonable price!!

Canada is poised to decouple some of our major trade relationships with our major trading America who tariff happy , erratic and increasing protectionist.
So Canada must necessarily shop alternate new global trading plays and partners but with caution.

Can American kill the the auto manufacturing sector in Ontario while simultaneously warning and menacing Canada to continue to have prohibitively high tariffs on Chinese EVs ? The answer is yes and no.

A partnership with China to build EVs in Canada along with reducing the tariffs on imported EVs might work but Canada would have balance this with pushback from America who lags China by 15 years on EV technologies as well as on telecommunications. Except for pick up trucks, the US automobile ICE manufacturing industry is in major decline anyway.

If Japan and S.Korea were not vassal states of rhe USA, it would make sense to partner with Japan to expand their production in Alliston and Cambridge and invite S. Korea to open EV plants in Oshawa, Oakville and Windsor.

America would never allow Chinese EVs made in Canada to be sold there.

The same was stated about Japanese cars once upon a time.
Japanese cars made in Ontario fall under CUSMA.
Chinese cars if they are actually ever made in Ontario would never be allowed into CUSMA.
Also the Japanese government is under much from America.
However, America cannot tell their banker China what to do

If Trump at one time looked like he was going to violate all the CUSMA agreements with the tariffs, then no doubt when CUSMA is back up for renewal in July of next year then cars assembled in Canada would be in the negotiations. Remember that car parts manufactured abroad and then assembled in either of the 3 nations did qualify for the CUSMA agreement. Now Mexico are already set to assemble the BYD and GWM cars in their plants. If China strikes a deal to include Canada then no doubt this would severely impact the car exports of the ones manufactured in the USA and destined for either of these two nations. The only stumbling block is that Mexico are planning to increase the tariffs for Chinese imports from 20% to 50% in the New Year. China has put a hold on assembling the cars in Mexico due to these tariffs uncertainty. Maybe they will divert it to Canada instead if the tariffs are dropped!!

They are made from the lowest quality parts possible, even down to the exterior LEDs.

The cheapest new car you can buy is a Nissan Versa, it starts at about 23k CAD, as with all Nissans you can be sure it is a total POS. You could buy 2 chinese BYD EVs with the money, I would wager that it would be less POS than the Nissan Versa.

Id never own a tesla, but I do know shitbabout it. Don't believe me? Rent one then pass the key card to anyone over 40 and ask them to take it for a rip so they can give you their honest opinion.
Just another one who knows nothing about it. from the looks of it...there are as much teslas now than before...i've seen a lot of cyber trucks too....ugly but people seem to like em...I don't buy one because I have faith on V8 Hemi to tow my boat around...but those model S X and Y looks nice. If Elon didn't go full MAGA, I'm sure you'd be fawning about it...it's just "trump is bad" to you guys.

For what it’s worth, the BYD EV prices in China certainly won’t be the priced like that in Canada. The prices will likely be on par with Australia and Europe
