I hope he does well and we get outta there fast with credit and not the didaster and shame that seem so inevitable.

It would have been nicer if the writer didn't feel she had to tell us his lieutenant-general's rank was equivalent to an American lieutentant-general's rank. That's non-militarism carried to an extreme.

Rawanda was a UN screwup.
Yes it was, a UN mandate commanded by a Canadian (without many Canadian resources) that was a massive screwup.

It is nice that General Bouchard is now in command. The real question is when will the U.S. cease combat opperations and turn this over to everyone else, certainly that is what the Obama Administration originally stated was what would occur within a few days.

Commanded by a Canadian whose actions while the UN undercut him were exemplary. If the US had not retracted its balls after the Mogadishu debacle and the UN was willing to put a few dollars down the outcome would have been completely different.

When did he say that? Do you have a quote? I thought that he said the US would hand over command.

Ok, so you think he said I intend to get the U.S. stuck in Libya for the next decade after I had so GD much to say about Iraq?

Well he has 60 days under the War Powers Act.

Nope, I dont think he said that. I think the us supported the un in responding to a rapidly evolving humanitarian emergency and implemented measures that averted a catastrophe.

I think the situation is still evolving fairly quickly and it's worth continuing while it does.

I think the usa is keen to make sure it's seen as a joint international mission and not a usa action, and that is why it's important that the us not command it.

I completely agree, without the US nothing really happens, Clinton has said this is his greatest regret which is one of the reasons I think we're in Libya now.
