Canadian authorities busted two people trying to smuggle about 100 pounds of cocaine into the United States.
The seizure had a street value of $5.75 million, Canadian Border Services Agency officials said in a statement issued today.
Border services officers stopped a truck about 9:30 a.m. March 29 as it attempted to cross the Blue Water Bridge in Point Edward, near Sarnia, according to the statement.
Officers found 46 bricks of the drug wrapped in plastic and hidden in a compartment between the back seat and the trunk, according to the release.
Two Kitchener, Ontario residents were arrested and police are pursuing drug possession with intent to distribute charges against them. The suspects are a 42-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman.
"This seizure is an excellent example of the outstanding work our officers continue to do in keeping illegal drugs out of our communities," said Stockwell Day, minister of Public Safety.
Canadian authorities were uncertain whether the drugs came from. Those with information can call the Canadian Border Services Agency Border Watch at (888) 502-9060
