Sorry, I don't have a cure for cancer, but I'm trying. The only way this will ever happen is with donations to the Cancer Society. I will be involved in a fundraising event called Dive For A Cure on April 13, when I will be attempting to SCUBA dive in the Etobicoke Olympium for 12 hours and collecting pledges to do this.
I'm not asking for money, just check out the site
www.diveforacure.ca and consider helping out however you can. PM me if you want to get involved.
Maybe, we terbites could arrange our own version of Dive for a Cure, but do a different kind of diving that many of us seem to enjoy. Maybe some SP's or MPA's would volunteer and the proceeds could be forwarded to the Cancer Society.

Please help, I'm a cancer survivor, so this is very important to me.

Great cause, and commendable actions on your part. I lost a beloved uncle to cancer and donate regularly to the CCS.....which makes the next thing I have to say kind of awkward...

I think you could've titled your thread differently. I realize you want people to look at it, but the moment of false hope you may give to sufferers and their familys could have been avoided.

Good luck though.

Most people know someone who has been lost to cancer, as have I. But I don't think browsers will be thinking a cure for cancer would be posted on terb! Smoothie should be applauded for his efforts and your comment above should not have been included in his thread, only the commendable actions and luck to smoothie you had posted.

Just my 2 cents. Hope for the best smoothie.

Its too bad most of the donations that go to these charitable organization, a good chunk of it goes towards administration. The last i heard 40% of our donations go towards the head administrators of these charities where most make in the access of well over $100, 000. United Way, Canadian Cancer Society are a bunch of crooks.
The 2001 audited books for the United Way of Canada shows they operated on a buget of ~$3,000,000. That year they raised $347,000,000. That is less than 1%, not 40%.

Go to the web site and check the figures on the statistics and publications page.

The Canadian Cancer Society had administrative and fundraising expenses of of 35,025,000 and revenues of 121,457,000. That is 29%. Their admin costs are 7,248,000 or 6%, about what it should be.

luckyjackson.....I am dumbfounded that you have posted such a comment. "Ye have little faith" Mr. "Doubting Thomas".

Not sure what you meant by this. I merely said that some people might think the thread was announcing some new promising cure, and then be disappointed to discover it was a fundraiser. I support the idea.

What was I thinking anyway!! Criticizing a survivor/fundraiser!!! I'm fortunate to have got off so easy. ;)

Take care, I'll try to be more optimistic.

And you believe these statistics just because you read what they posted?
Get a dictionary and look up the word audited before insulting the intelligence of others. The accounts were independently audited by KPMG.

Thanks for the support people! I really didn't want to mislead anyone, but I did want to get there attention. I'm hearing more stories from survivors or people who knew someone who didn't survive and it inspires me even more. If you would like to sponsor me, PM me and we can work out how to do it.

While this statement is true about some charities ( there was a newspaper article in the Star a couple of months ago ) it is not true about the Cancer Society which has one of the higher % of collected revenue to spending on programs ( low admin costs ) . To say that the Cancer Society are crooks is totally false . Another case of someone spouting their mouth off without the slightest grasp of the facts .
