Cancun Warning

The local police are in a political fight with their Municipal Government. The Police are asking for more money for funding and other stuff. and the Gov. just wont budge.
So now the police are Blackmailing tourists and threatening jail time in exchange for money. Its not a holiday hotspot right now, besides we Canucks are mistaken for Americans and that cant be good either.

That's actually been going on for a while.

The targets are usually the Spring Breakers.But, there's good news - usually (just a rule of thumb)...

- Most of the time urinating anywhere is illegal - the standard fine is $200 USD or 2 days in jail but if arrested -
a. try not to argue and be a dick (specially if caught in the act)
b. get IN the cop car - let the negotiations begin - you can probably haggle it down to 50 or 60 USD (keep in mind - they wont take a bribe in plain view) and keep a separate roll of money - so you don't flash a huge roll in front of them. Keep the "fine" money in another pocket.
- DO NOT rent a car - hire a driver if you must or join a tour - you'd be surprised what kind of driving infraction you'd commit
- Public drunkedness is kind of a crime - there's a sliding scale on this one too
- DO NOT go to Blackjacks or any of the finer adult entertainment establishments - too many heat scores there
- For the most part, most of the cops leave the older more "distinguished" tourists alone - it's the kids they roust
- For Gods sake - do not smoke weed in public

Cancun isn't bad though if you compare it to Acapulco or God forbid Tijuana.lol Just follow the "rule" - if its illegal here - it's probably illegal there.

Everything Healer677 said is right on to the point. I was there on a Spring break and the cops try too get you for everything.One of my friends was caught peeing outside COCO Bongos and they tried to get us to pay 500US or he gets 7 days in jail.We got it down to 200US. They even send guys to sell you weed hind around the corner and the pounce on you. As for the strip clubs BlackJacks is in a mall strip clubs..and what is right beside it...a police station!! So becareful but you will have a good time.

Holy crap! That's a months salary for a cop down there - now that's a ballsy bribe. Well, gotta give credit where credit is due.

The funny part though is, as bad as it sounds; I still prefer Cancun to all the Carribean / Mexican destinations I've been to. To me it's like coming home everytime. Nothing beats morning tans, afternoon bullfights and all night clubbing (though I am getting too old to listen to techno for 10 straight hours).lol

Actually next time you go - try out The City, nice sound there too. They've been flying in DJs from NY and London the past few months.

Coco Bongo is doing their Vegas review thing still - but that show is good. Nice lights.

There a rumor going around that LaBoom might move downtown. Carlos and Charlies moved last year next to Hard Rock and it's doing better $$$wise.
