I have a convertible SUV, which some cockroach broke into last week by cutting the soft top. I bought a used hardtop, but the front portion doesn't fit right. So, while I'm shovelling out money, I thought I'd like to get a sunroof put in. Only problem is, they don't make a sunroof big enough to fit the hole (24.5" x 37.5"). The only solution I can see is to have a custom auto place weld metal around the inside of the hole, making it small enough for the sunroof to be fitted. A guy I called in Hamilton quoted me 1k for this, which is about double what I wanted to spend (that's not counting the $450 for the sunroof installed). Does anyone on here know of a car customizing place that can do this job, including the sunroof installation where I'm not going to be taking it up the tailpipe?

Thanks in advance.

BTW, if the piece of shit that broke into my truck is reading this, I've got a baseball bat at home with your name on it!!!

I would contact an authorized dealer found at http://www.webasto.us.
I know they offer a 36.5 x 23 - with the frame / gasket your opening might be to spec.
Thanks for the suggestion...but, I contacted the dealer in Guelph & they told me for safety's sake, it wouldn't be advisable to put this size in because there's nothing to support it. So, I guess a chop shop is still the only answer...

97 Tracker...

BTW, I found a website showing the largest sunroof ever made...& it's still too small to fit in my vehicle (23" x 39" frame)...

Leave it alone. Custom mods like this to vehicles are a waste of money. They detract from the items resale value and never work properly.
