The BlackVue's have pretty bad reviews when it comes to firmware and camera capability. They do seem to have a decent parking mode, and are small, but the rest looks like a bit of a mess.

Are you saying they have fixed this? I assume the camera will have issues due to low sensor quality.

Did you do the power hookup so it runs while parked?

I have no issues with it. It works great. Obviously the video is not that great, but its fine for its purpose. It does well in sun you just have to angle it property and play with the angle so it exposes the outside and limit your car interior as it will affect exposure, it does well in low light because the front is lit up by your car and street lights. The back camera sucks in low light. The GPS is good, the accelerometer giving you 3 different accelerations is nice feature, you can turn on/off the speed to be overlaid on the footage. This all changes dynamically when you view the SD card on the PC viewer. You can see the map and the little squiggly lines showing your forces in the x, y, z direction.

I also had the first edition but gave it away to a family member and they still love it no issues with the camera or software. We did have to upgrade once.

There are no issues with this camera. It works pretty good. In the new version they improved the WIFI and now give you an option to use the cloud so you can live stream your feed.

The only thing that failed with the old was the microSD card. We replaced it with the sandisk and now works without problems. I got the first one when it came out and now I have the latest version.

To use the parking mode you need an accessory that attaches to you car battery because in most cars the jack shuts off. I think its called magic jack or power jack or something similar. I have not used this parking feature so I have no opinion. When I park and sit in my car for a while the unit says parking mode enabled. I have never really checked the footage but can give it a try in the next day or two and can let you know what it does.

These people who complain are technology illiterate... This is a good camera and works well. Software is okay, and their UI can use improvement but it works as required. Can can also be trolls trying to give it bad ratings for whatever reason, maybe competition. I like the way it works and never had any issues connecting to it or it overheating including the first version. My only complaint is the video quality kind of sucks but I am used to really good 4k with good dynamic range and accurate color reproduction so it sticks out. It better video quality the card would probably fill up quicker and maybe the camera might get bulkier, but yes the can improve the sensor a bit. Can I read the license plates, use it to make out car model, use it at night and direct sunlight, answer is yes. It works fine for this purpose.

Does this camera come with lots of cable to plug into the power source??
Yes. The cable length is more then enough. Probably too much since I needed to bunch both the rear and front cables to keep them tidy and I have an SUV.

The back camera plugs into the main camera where both channels are recorded onto one micro SD. The main camera plugs into your cars outlet. So you only need 1 power source

Is it legal to take videos of other people, especially if there are little kids around? Second question, is it legal to post these videos on social media?

Without searching this my gut tells me big no. It is so wrong and one of the reasons I sold my DSLR, seems like everyone is so paranoid looking for creepers when the creepers are standing right behind their eyes and they don't even know it.

Its an inversion of privacy. I would not like it if someone did this to me or my fam, and I expect my own actions to follow the same principles.

I would go with a DOD LSW 360 or the new 370. Amazing night vision quality and Canadian office to deal with for warranty.
I've owned the 360 for 6 months now and no problems.
The DOD is the one I have always had recommended to me, though I understand the parking mode has been an area of criticism.

Thanks for letting me know they have the new model (I was looking at the 360 and 460). An improved sensor is impressive, given they were already very good.
Would you actually get GPS or is it relatively useless?

I looked at this one above and it is not the best for overall features. Yes video quality and low light is better, however BlackVue front camera is okay for the purpose, it is smaller and easier to hide behind the mirrior and just leave in the car.

The main feature I really like is the parking mode and cloud connection to monitor your house from your car. You know how many times I thought someone is walking around the house. Now I can just pick up my phone from the side of the bed and check it out. I just ordered the battery from Amazon.

https://www.amazon.ca/gp/r.html?C=2...B1IPPCDFMVCA&ref_=pe_386430_190598250_TE_item

Could also be a good feature to monitor your drivers particularly if they are teen drivers.

As an update so I received the 16,000 mah battery and now the unit works really good as a survalance tool independent of my cars battery.

The cloud feature was easy to set up. The camera is connected to my homes WiFi. I have it set up to notify me each time there is motion detected and it buzzes my phone even when the app is closed and gives me a push message.

I have no problems logging into the app becuae it uses my wifi. I can also use my LTE to track my house from the outside and the front door and gate.

Wow, this is better then a motion security system I have been pondering. I already had someone try to drill my lock on the gate to the back yard so this is a very important feature.

So yeah I am extremely happy with the unit. Like I said low light sucks, but so what I have my lights on when driving at night lol....plus my outside lights are on and the camera picks up the important parts.

When car parked it basically waits for motion and then starts to record until it does not sense motion.

IMO the most useful feature
Event Recording 1 If an impact is detected in normal or parking mode recording, event recording is started. 2 It records video for 5 seconds before and 55 seconds after the impact.

Here is the only catch with this cloud feature...
The BlackVue C app allows you to create a free account easily. Your free BlackVue Over the Cloud account includes the following (as of April 2016):
10 minutes daily Live View
Stream real-time video from your BlackVue.
Reinitialized every day.
One BlackVue Dashcam
Register one BlackVue dashcam per Free account.
5 GB of Cloud storage
5 GB to back up your video files in the Cloud
100 Downloads per month
100 downloads or replays of videos from the Cloud or the dashcam's SD card per month.
However if you are within 10m from inside your house to the camera it will still pick up the WiFi, the live feed and access to all your clips, meaning you can just bypass the cloud feature and use the WiFi direct and pair your phone to the device.
