High interest savings ETF such as Global X in post 1.

What happens is the ETF goes to banks and gets a higher rate to put their money into a banks savings account

Negatives are interest is highly taxed and money is not government insured as it would be if you had put your monies into a savings account

This is a much needed thread

I am not one to market time but Duck Donald is crazy.

While the market will recover from the fool he will be here for a very long four years so
I have altered my investment stategy and gone fifty fifty into stocks and money market

I have put money into high interest savings account until I decide what part of the money
market I want to invest in

To go totally out of the market may be a big mistake as Duck Donald and his tarriffs
may profit the wealthy which means the stock market booms

Bottom line is put money into the market that you do not need for five years

Of course,
The problem with Cash ETFS is you never know when to get back into the market?? I personally don't believe in timing the market!! It's easier just to stay in the market, with the asset allocation, that suits your risk tolerance etc Ride out the dips, and you'll be rewarded with higher returns long term, as long as you don't need the money in the next 5yrs etc!!
Agree, 100%. Normally, I would never advocate timing the market. But these are not normal times. Trump may steer the economy into a recession, and the market could be harmed in ways we don't know yet. If being guaranteed 3% a year is better than hoping for a possible 10'% return at a risk of losing 30-40% helps you sleep better at night, it's a good option.

My health has taken a huge toll from Bitcoin. I've invested for a year already, and the dramatic swings have been really punishing. Mental and physical health and peace of mind > money

Never invest in this bitcoin crap.
Unregulated stuff.
It always fucks people.
Investments that don't take too much of your time are the best.
Invest, and then hold.
Have a healthy savings account that can help you ride it out for a year.

If you wish to remain invested, but want to minize risk, I highly recommend brk.b, a holding company run by Warren Buffet. He owns many companies, so it's almost like an ETF, but no management fees. Over the last five years it has outpaced the s&p significantly. It is also great for weathering storms. For example, during this market crash, it has held up extremely well.

100%

Trump is a wild card because no market analysis anticpated a crazy fool who lacks reason in charge

The market is more psychological than anything else

If you cannot stomach crashes than put money where it is safer otherwise you will sell low and buy high

I have done well with BRK.B - IE Berkshire Warren Buffet holding company - and it is the one stock I own and will hold onto.

Everthing else I have invested in is a ETF as I dumped all my mutual funds to get away from their 2.5% money grab

Think about that, as 2.5 is approx half of your expected profit and the other other half is eaten by inflation so
mutual funds steal all your profit and give empty hopes of a huge return as said hopes are
a smoke and mirrors show

IMHO, the problem with BRK-B, is that you have to buy this in US dollars. Unless you have US dollars sitting around, you get killed on the exchange rate, if you have to buy this security in CDN dollars and then have to convert it to USD, You're already 40% behind, right off the bat!!
It can now be bought in most brokerage accounts in Canadian dollars . I think they added it recently

HSUV.U is worth checking out, it is the same as a regular cash ETF but the interest accrues into the fund price so you do not get interest or dividends. If you need money then you sell the fund and pay capital gains.

It requires USD to purchase. There is a CAD version but it is much shittier.

What you can get is hedged protection aganst currency flucuation which is not free.

But if you have american equity in usa $ and the value or american currency goes up in
relation to canadian money you will proifit when you sell

Yeah, you could use Norberts Gambit but I have never done it.

What would be the best investment to make with 20k USD for a 5 year stint? Is Hamilton ETF worthy, or should I look in to a US ETF since I have the US funds?

I have limited knowledge but want to do something intelligent with this gift.
