Don't believe in climate change eh.

Let's all underestimate the fragility of human existance. With Planet Earth already groaning under the weight of excess carbon dioxide and sulfates, a major volcanic eruption would tip it beyond the point of no return. Even a nuclear blast from one of Un's warheads could tip Earth into Hades. The explosion of Mt. Toba, 70,000 nearly exterminated the human species. This is the story of 536 AD, the worst year in human recorded history.

This is why I find volcanoes so fascinating, our Bitcoin loving world is powerless against them.

Prime Minister Trudeau 'missed a historic chance’ to change healthcare: Canadian doctors, experts react to $196B investment

Canadians wonder where the actual investment in healthcare will end up if provinces are in charge of the funds
Wed, February 8, 2023 at 6:50 PM EST

Provinces and Territories will have $196.1 billion to work with over 10 years in healthcare funds, which includes $46.2 billion in new support. The deal is being presented by the federal government as a generational fix to a system that’s languishing, as hospitals and medical practices across the country continue to face challenges like increased wait times and staffing shortages.

Ottawa laid out the proposed healthcare deal on Tuesday, but was ultimately met with an underwhelming reaction from premiers.

Singh calls Trudeau’s health funding offer to the provinces a ‘failure’
NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh on Wednesday called Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s $196.1-billion health funding plan a “failure.” Singh said the plan does not offer “a clear path” to hire more health-care workers or address the shortage of family doctors.

Manitoba Premier Heather Stefanson, who heads the Council of the Federation, which represents the group of premiers, said they were disappointed with what was presented and would take time to assess the plan. Ontario Premier Doug Ford described the healthcare funding plan as a “starting point”.

On social media, reaction to Ottawa’s healthcare plan was mixed. Some felt it failed to address some of the pressing issues, like lack of staffing and improved working conditions.

One columnist pointed out that a similar move was made in 2004, by then-Prime Minister Paul Martin, which doesn't appears to have made much of a difference.

The proposed finances include conditions that would require provinces to invest their own finances into health care. The funding would start by giving provinces and territories an unconditional boost to the Canada Health Transfer (CHT) to target what Ottawa calls "immediate pressure on the health-care system, especially in pediatric hospitals, emergency rooms and surgical and diagnostic backlogs."

Yellowstone: Kevin Costner out, Matthew McConaughey in, report claims
Fri, February 10, 2023 at 9:24 AM EST

Yellowstone fans have been left reeling by a shake-up reportedly set to hit the series.

The Western, which is one of the most-watched shows in the US, stars Kevin Costner in the lead role as the head of the Dutton family, owners of the largest ranch in Montana.

Yellowstone, created by Sicario and Hell or High Water writer Taylor Sheridan, is on its fifth season, and currently has two spin-offs, with another two on the way.

But it’s being reported that Oscar winner Costner is departing Yellowstone, which will bring the series to an end.

However, it’s claimed that the torch will be handed over to another Academy Award winner: Matthew McConaughey.

According to Deadline, Sheridan and the Paramount network are hoping McConaughey will lead a “franchise extension to continue the Dutton saga”.

It’s currently not clear whether the series would also be set on the Dutton ranch, but it reportedly will inherit main Yellowstone cast members, including Kelly Reilly, Gil Birmingham and Luke Kirby.

The news comes after reports that Sheridan locked heads with Costner, who won a Golden Globe for the role in January, over the actor’s shooting schedules for another project.

A source for the Paramount Network said: “Kevin Costner is a big part of Yellowstone and we hope that’s the case for a long time to come.

“Thanks to the brilliant mind of Taylor Sheridan, we are always working on franchise expansions of this incredible world he has built.”

They continued: “Matthew McConaughey is a phenomenal talent with whom we’d love to partner.”

The Independent has contacted reps for additional comment.

Yellowstone and its spin-offs are available to stream on Paramount Plus and Prime Video.

George Santos calls himself ‘simple minded’ and claims support from Kyrsten Sinema. She denies it
Sat, February 11, 2023 at 3:56 PM EST

Following demands for his resignation and labels like “sick puppy” and “sociopath” coming from members of his own party, newly elected Republican US Rep George Santos described himself as “simple minded” as he defended against an avalanche of allegations of fraud and con artistry.

But in that same interview, the freshman congressman from New York appeared to add to a growing list of fabrications by detailing a recent conversation with a Senator Kyrsten Sinema – whose office said had never happened.

During a wide-ranging interview with right-wing media network Newsmaxpersonality Greg Kelly, Mr Santos said money that powered his campaign – which faces several accusations of campaign finance violations – was legitimately obtained through his company, which he said loaned him funding.

“This is about getting stuff done, having somebody like me coming to represent other people just like me: simple-minded folks who come from absolutely nothing and have a voice in Congress,” he said.

He also addressed a tense exchange with Republican Senator Mitt Romneyduring President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address, adding that, unlike the GOP senator from Utah, Ms Sinema was “very kind-hearted” and told him something to the effect of “hang in there, buddy” – which Ms Sinema has denied ever happening.

Mr Romney told reporters that, when he saw Mr Santos in an aisle seat where members of Congress waited to shake hands with the president’s cabinet and the president himself, he told Mr Santos “you don’t belong here”.

He later told reporters that Mr Santos is a “sick puppy” who wouldn’t be at the address if he “had any shame at all.”

The day after the president’s remarks, Mr Santos called Mr Romney’s statements “reprehensible” and “demeaning”.

“It wasn’t very Mormon of him,” he said of Mr Romney, a member of the Church of Latter-Day Saints.

Ms Sinema, on the other hand, “said something to the effect of ‘hang in there buddy’ or something like that,” Mr Santos told Newsmax.

“I said ‘Thank you, madam senator,’” he added. “She was very polite, very kind-hearted as I’ve learned to see her. She’s a good person, unlike Mr Romney.”

Ms Sinema’s office flatly rejected his claim.

“This is a lie,” Ms Sinema’s spokesperson Hannah Hurley told CNN.

In his interview, Mr Santos was also asked about his false claims about his resume and his education, which he has admitted to fabricating. He suggested that New York’s Nassau County Republicans would not have endorsed him if he admitted that he never finished college.

“Look, Greg, here’s the deal. I would have never got the nomination from Nassau County GOP if I had not concluded college,” he said. “That was really the main driver because of the way and the nature of their politics over there, it’s just plain and simple.”

Mr Santos admitted to embellishing claims about working for Goldman Sachs and Citigroup, though he claimed that he “never lied” because he supposedly worked for contractors engaged by both firms.

“I want to set the record clear on my work experience. I never lied. I never worked for Goldman Sachs or Citigroup directly, but I did work through direct contracts for those firms in the management of limited partners and general partners relationships,” he said.

“I’m human. I’ve made mistakes,” he added. “I’ve made peace with those mistakes, and I’ve come clean on those mistakes.”

Here's a good one, Anthony Devolder burnished his credentials by writing bad cheques to the Amish for his seeing eye dog business. No such business exists, which leads me to believe that George Santos is actually High Pitch Eric from the Howard Stern Show.

In other news, Premiere Douglas will give part of the money for health care to the Muzzo family who attended his stag and doe party.

As for myself, I'll be in Napoli later this year. I'm starting a low carb diet and hitting the elliptical, need to be in shape, I'm hiking to the top of the God of Fire.

Gene Roddenberry and Thomas Jefferson were both aficionados of Ancient Rome, both were fans of Tiberius Gracchus...who almost gave Rome a democracy.

Roddenberry named Spocco's race after the God of Fire. Vulcan not only destroys, he bequeaths, Campagnia (Region of Napoli) has some of the richest farmland in all of Europe.

...the pizza of Salerno is just as good.

After doing the funky Alfonzo, he's going to be hungry. I just bought a Cuccumella!
