The CDC knew that masks worked but the surgeon general was worried that there would not be enough masks for healthcare workers, and recomnended not to use them.
This created an explosion in cases, especially cites like New York with lots of commuters and people close to each other. This never happened in Tokyo or Hong Kong wihich is even denser, but everone wears a mask.
The resulting masssive number of cases created a shortage of masks for healh care workers. How ironic. Maybe if the CDC did the righ thing in the beginning, and told everyone to protect themselve and others by wearing a mask in February none of this would have happened.

Seriously people- STOP BUYING MASKS!
They are NOT effective in preventing general public from catching #Coronavirus, but if healthcare providers can’t get them to care for sick patients, it puts them and our communities at risk!
