So my nephew from Uruguay is bringing his new wife to Toronto for a honeymoon. I would like to take them out for ceviche while they're here but I've been dissapointed with what I've found so far. Anyone have any recommendations?
Thing is , how do you know the fish you're getting is fit to be eaten raw?Make it yourself!
It is very easy to make: firm white fish cut into small pieces, thinly sliced onions, chopped jalapeño peppers, some chopped parsley, lots of freshly squeezed lime juice (don't squeeze the limes too hard), salt and pepper, mix well, let stand for about 20 minutes and voilá!
Great with very cold vodka or white Tequila.

Go to reputable fish monger and let them know how you intend to eat the fish. Raw fish has no fishy type smell so you should definitely ask to smell it. A ceviche dish is very very easy to make and there are many versions as well so search google and pick one and give it a go , and report back. Or hire me to come make it for youThing is , how do you know the fish you're getting is fit to be eaten raw?
The wonders of refrigeration, and modern transport get it here fast and government regulation and inspection gives us some confidence in the place that selected and served it. But it's still travelled a looong way, for a considerable time, and your nephew comes from a country where no place is very far from the sea. I'd be inclined to leave him to show you how such a dish should be done when you visit.Thing is , how do you know the fish you're getting is fit to be eaten raw?
You have to ask for sushi grade fish so they know you intend to eat it raw!Thing is , how do you know the fish you're getting is fit to be eaten raw?
I researched and discovered Toronto gets it fresh fish delivery every Tuesday so the best time to buy it is late Tuesday or Wednesday to get it at its freshest. The wonders of refrigeration, and modern transport get it here fast and government regulation and inspection gives us some confidence in the place that selected and served it. The wonder of Toronto is that the world is available in our restaurants; find what he hasn't had and can't get at home: Ethiopian? Malaysian? Punjabi? Chinese of all sorts?
As for Toronto seafood; it's fine for us locals who are limited by residence, but I wouldn't think it's what we have to show off.
Wrong assumption, wrong conclusion. You have to ask for sushi grade fish so they know you intend to eat it raw!
Research again, because this research is fucked up.I researched and discovered Toronto gets it fresh fish delivery every Tuesday so the best time to buy it is late Tuesday or Wednesday to get it at its freshest.
