Are you surprised? Marketplace was only repeating what others have been reporting on for years.

You may even have seen the term 'shill' appear on this site once or twice.

I concur utterly and completely with everything that's been said. However, forewarned is forearmed, and the continued efforts to make consumers aware of these questionable tactics is still worthwhile.
So remember, kids, even if you read it on the internet yourself with your own two eyes, it still might not be true. Shocking, I know.

Always be asking yourself, who benefits? This caution has been around since ancient Roman times. Back then they (the astute ones) asked themselves, qui bono?

Rhetorical, right ?

Who has the signanature with the wife saying "come to bed" and the guy who's sitting on the computer says "I can't there's something wrong on the Internet"
That would be oldjones, a man of obvious distinction and taste. It's from one of the best webcomics around, XKCD.

(note - xkcd usually has semi-hidden bonus punchlines: alt text that appears when you mousehover over the comic)

Everything on the internet is real don't you know that.

I have one review from whomever on my website as they never did tell me that they had done so and a first name isn't much to go on. Whoever you are, Thank You! The truth of the matter is that there is nothing stopping me from going on it and posting a bunch of bogus reviews/testimonials. I would question anyone using the same free web design co. with a bunch of reviews on their site, as I find most hobbyists use sites like this to post their experiences, especially if every review on such said site has the same feel or reads like the same person wrote them.

Also of note, I advertise very infrequently on another site and often notice that other ladies have way more views than me, even when posting days/weeks after me. I always found this a curiosity until I realized that there's nothing stopping me or them from clicking x times to make it look like I or they have way more people viewing their ad than in reality. I'm not saying that they are all cheating as exclamations of "new pics" or an interesting tag line, etc. will always garner more views, but it is very likely in some cases that they are using sneaky tactics. I don't do this as I truly want to track what works and doesn't, etc. and can't do that if I'm in effect padding my ads/advertising efforts.

What's that saying again? Oh yeah, "BS baffles Brains", at least some times.

Political groups are the worst for this. It's been painfully obvious for the last 5-6 years now that they pay people to go into threads and comments sections and tout their brand
