Now we know why the Chinese good at Ping Pong and Frogger!
Now you know why they put curbs up on the whole length of Spadina Ave. separating the the street cars from the traffic.

As some one who spends a great deal of time in China I can testify that this taxi ride is a common occurrence. There are no traffic laws there, only loose guidelines which they sometimes choose to follow.
And 8.00 RMB for that ride was about $1.20 Canadian!!!

I too have been to China a lot and have travelled in the hinterland, not just the big coastal cities. I have been more scared there than in any of the 30-odd other countries I've been to.

I've had drivers deliberately drive the wrong way down a limited access super highway rather than get off at the next ramp to get to a missed turn-off. (I don't mean back up. I mean turn around and drive the wrong way.) I've also witnessed a car pass another car which was passing a slow truck all at the same time (3 abreast) on a blind corner on a mountain highway. Driving on the wrong side of the street like that taxi was doing was commonplace. In many large chinese cities they have errected metal barriers down the middle of the wider streets just to make it impossible.

You'll see police there but they never do anything about the driving that I've seen.

The worst part is that the Chinese bring these awful driving practices to Canada, Toronto and Vancouver especially. You take your life into your own hands when you walk or drive in Markham and Agincourt(Asiancourt) areas. The number of accidents is startling, and is one of the reasons why Car Insurance rates are so high in this area. The Chinese are by far the worst of the worst when it comes to driving.

so if you are Chinese, you are automatically a bad driver? There is no factual documentation to support car insurance rate increase because of the number of accidents in the areas that you talked about. I'm not Asian, but I don't believe it's fair to say all Asians are bad drivers.

100% accurate they are the worst. A friend of mine that works at the DMV told me that they had to put up notices in the office informing people that when taking the driving test they will have to produce a photo ID before and after stating that they are who they say they are. Apparently before they would get their friend/relative to take they're driving test becuz they knew they would fail big time.

It really is alarming just how much of them are HORRIBLE drivers that shouldn't be allowed behind the wheel. I am 44 and got my license when I was 16, no accidents maybe 2 minor speeding tickets (50 in a 40zone type of stuff). On average within a typical work week I see at least a dozen bonehead/ dangerous moves done by Chinese on the road. So much that I don't drive through certain parts of Scarb and Markham anymore for fear of getting t-boned.

My insurance agent told me that insurance is higher in certain parts of the city according to the Chinese population.

I have been hit from behind 3 times over the past 10 years of driving in Scarborough and Markham. Two of these collisions at the lights on Kennedy and Steeles. The other one at Hwy 7 and Warden. Guess the ethnicity of all three drives that hit me from behind.

Years ago I was hit from behind at a traffic light at McCowan & Alton Towers. I was on my Suzuki GSXR750 at a red light jus chillin when I get hit from behind. Luckly it wasnt hard enuff to knock me off the bike but it did smash my brake light and rear signals (pushed my bike about 2 feet forwards). After the impact I turned off the bike put the kickstand up and walked over to the driver side and started asking him how could he not see me stopped at the light. The 70 year old Chinese man didnt even look at me he jus kept looking forward and didnt even get out of the car or roll down his window. He didnt ask if I was alright or anything. I started yelling at him through his window and he kept looking forward pretending not to see/hear me.

Later when the cop came and I gave him my statement he told me that alot of Chinese pretend that they dont know english whenever they cause an accident in HOPES that the person they hit gets frustrated and doesnt pursue it... Not me, I called the police and the man was charged.

Well, technically the Chinese are better drivers. Most Toronto drivers simply do not have the skill to drive in China. Not even close.

The problem is when they get into roads over here their reflexes and habits cause them to do things no one else here expects, but which everyone in China does and expects others to do.

I find that most Chinese drivers in the GTA are too cautious, not aggressive enough. They sit through advance left signals at traffic lights without turning left until the signal stops, preventing other cars going around, drive too slow, and make left turns from the driving lane when dedicated left turn lanes are provided. I WISH they drove aggressively in Toronto like they do in China rather like driving like they are in the Santa Claus Parade.

A Chinese guy I know in his 20s told me once that his parent's generation who came over from China drive slow and cautious in minivans and do the things I complain about, but the young Chinese who were born here like fast Japanese cars and drive more like everyone else (or even faster). He by his own admission drove very aggressively/fast. I'm not so sure about this generalization though as I've seen young Chinese girls driving very slow on highways with cars passing them on both sides (they are doing 60 km/h on a 400-series highway in the middle lane when limit is 100 km/h).

One reason that Chinese drivers are so terrible is that so many of them do their driving test outside of the city. They all go to Chinese driving schools, where they get their instruction in Mandarin, and then the instructor drives them to smaller towns like Bancroft, Ontario, where there might be only 1 stop light in the town. They pass the test, and then try to drive around the Pacific Mall on a Saturday afternoon with disastrous results. I also blame the MTO for this, but you'd think at least some Chinese would want to be a certain comfort level before driving the Toronto city street.

Older Chinese drive slow, and poorly, while Chinese males(especially younger ones) drive fast and with reckless abandon. Roads like Steeles Avenue, are full of Chinese racers. Occasionally these punks get what they deserve, but not usually.

Be careful going to those Asian incalls...too many Chinese drivers on the road

Try doing that ride in a rickshaw.

and if you think China is bad, try a cab ride in Mumbai.

Drivers in China used the horn a lot and that is only to warn other drivers their presence, here if you honk at anyone, you will get the fingers, swearing....canadian drivers just have too much road rage.

Yes, you notice that he didn't actually hit anything. And why were all those other drivers stopping and blocking his way for no apparent reason?

This statement just made to The Best Bullshit of the year book LMAO.

I don't live in an area where there are a lot of Chinese people first of all. I live in area where majority is white jewish people. Let me tell you that I swear a lot in the car due to their stupidity, ignorance and recklessness. They stop in the middle of the street block all the traffic to get onto the other side of the street, they ignore stop signs, don't give the right way to pedestrians, park on the corner of intersection, park on sidewalk, and I can go on and on.

So yeah, Chinese people are the worst driver? This is so stereotypical assumption that made by people who like to make fun of Chinese people. I say there are bad drivers and good drivers, and not categorize good and bad drivers by nationalities/races. Also my insurance is higher now compared to before when I lived in Markham.

Honestly this is nothing compared to Cairo which is the most insane. Roma is a close second.

In Toronto, the cabbies look at the on coming stop light to see what time is left if its a green light and PURPOSELY SLOW DOWN, so they can stop at a red. In other words the slow down on a green light and speed up to stop when its red.
