Its a good idea in some ways, but I see a lot of negative points...

you lost your cell phone...now you are out a cell and home phone...you get BS phone calls ALL the time...signal strength is not 100% all the time and therefore you are going to miss calls...where a landline is always there and working.

Local numbers are portable; it's only cell numbers that aren't, I believe.
Fido offers a transfer of your number, and white pages directory listing at your option; presumably you could keep it and might still be ahead on all the local cell calls. But if you give it up, to max the savings, how does whoever's at home get/make calls when you've left yr cell at the MP? Is this for the unnattached only? Isn't that singlism?
