If, and it is a big if, Milos beats Murray, what would you consider a greater accomplishment by a Canadian?

Milos winning Wimbledon or Mike Weir winning the Masters? Or are they on par?

Personally, I think they are extremely close but I'd give a slight nod to Milos mainly because of Wimbledon having more history and (IMO) a bit more prestige.

Good question, personally I think they are equal. Both tournaments are the pinnacle of their sports, very similar to each other in many respects in terms of exclusivity, privilege, their own little worlds.

Go Milos!

Definitely Wimbledon. which is regarded by many as the unofficial tennis world championships. Winners of the major golf tournaments on the other hand seem 'ten a penny'. Golfers will no doubt disagree.

I don't play golf (too boring) so I'll say Wimbledon. In tennis you play against a human while in golf you play against the course. BTW: I like that nice green jacket.

LOL at stating "definitely" then demonstrating you have zero knowledge about Golf majors. How is the Masters "ten a penny" event? Golf has 4 majors just like Tennis. and Masters like Wimbledon have the largest public eye.

I think the Walker has captured it pretty well in the second post of this thread. They are very much the same thing. If both had one major, and Weir's was the PGA and Raonic's was the Australian, they would be large but lack the lustre a bit.

I can't watch Tennis for more than 30 seconds at a time, but I can't diminish how huge a Canadian moment this is tomorrow. Wimbledon is huge global event, and Milos will inspire many young Canadian fans or make many adult fans proud.

.
I wasn't referring to the number of Golf majors, more to the number of different winners. As I said though, Golfers will disagree with my views.

This has nothing to do with me being a Golf fan.

Tennis was recently in a dominant period (Novak, Roger, Rafael) , but it was not always like that. 1998-2003 had 16 different major winners over 6 years. I believe there was an 11 major period of 11 different winners.

If your argument is that it has harder to win a tennis major, that is very much an era dependent statement. In 2003, Golf was in the middle of the Tiger era (with Singh, Goosen, Els, Mickelson all in their prime). Winning a Golf Major in 2000-2003 was harder then winning a Tennis Major in 2000-2003.

It is still up in the air whether Milos wins tomorrow if 2016 is still a dominant era. That era may or may not have run its course

I am not trying to diminish Milos victory. I think they are very similar accomplishments. But you are forcing me to actually back up my comments (what a concept, eh?).

Purely on subjective conjecture and gut feel, I speculate that it would be more difficult for a Canadian to develop into an elite, champion-caliber Tennis player as opposed to a Golfer only because in Tennis the quality of opponents & hitting partners would seem to play a greater roll in the rate of a talented player's development whereas in Golf you play against yourself, the course and the conditions, so the quality of instruction as well as your own talent & temperament play the greatest role in how much and how soon you improve. Is sports whee you play directly against others, there is an element of learning from matches that can't be filled by coaching or practicing by yourself.

For me, I really like Weir and golf so Weir winning the Masters was a way bigger deal.

To me tennis is more like a match play golf event where much is dependent on the luck of the draw and how good or bad your opponent is on a particular day, as opposed to beating the entire field over the course of the whole tournament.
Not to take anything away from a Milos win, which would be great, but Milos is very fortunate that he does not have to face Djokovic.

Both would be equally amazing victories in Canadian sports history.

I would say they're equal achievements. More golfers have a chance to actually win a major than tennis players do. As pure athletes golfers are nowhere near tennis players though
