Computer help needed.

I currently use IE and sympatico. I placed a password on the computer to keep kids out. Now next to my user name it lists # of mail messages and name of account. Not such a good thing Any way to disable this function? Any help appreciated perferble before I get busted

It is nothing to do with Sympatico, or IE.

I am assuming you are using XP.

Go to Control Panel > User Accounts > Change the way users log on or off

uncheck the box that says "Use the Welcome screen"

This should make your computer more secure.. just remember what your account name is for Windows

Is there any other way to do it?

My hotmail account keeps indicating on my Welcome screen how many e-mails I have waiting in my clandestine, porn surfin', TERB postin', password-protected account that is hidden in plain view with the other 5 legitimate accounts that the family uses. If I change the screen to user login it is not as convenient and may arouse some suspicion that I might be participating in some sort of nefarious activities on the computer.

Any way to disable the Hotmail input?

Might as well ask about my own problem. For the last while, my computer has slowed down. I've tried several things with minor improvements.

I'm running win XP pro 64 with pretty high end cpu and video. I've swept for spyware with three different programs (though I just keep one active at any time) defragmented, virus checked with the latest updates, adjusted virus scan settings but th ecomputer is still really slow, especially when I startup or run new programs.

Any suggestions?

Strange: I'm experiencing the same problem. You can also use a program like mcafee winclean or others. if you load and unload applications often (or at all) it puts files all over your pc and leaves a snail's trail of bs behind when you uninstall it. it also puts all kinds of crap into your registry which often doesn't get removed when you uninstall.

You also incur a ton of tmp files that are supposed to be deleted after you've installed an app but 9 times out of 10 they don't.

Unfortunately for apps like spyware doctor and winclean they often install small monitors that are supposed to prevent spyware build up, but that also can slow down your apps as they are scanning what you're doing to make sure you don't get re-spammed.

What 64 bit applications are u running? if they are not 64 bit it won't matter.
