anyone have any idea why my computer shuts off by itself while I'm surfing the net?

this has happened twice now . the first time it happened , I thought maybe it was too hot or something. It just happened again today after using for about five mins . I had to wait for about five mins before the power would come back on( kept pressing the button but nothing would happen ).

the fan seems to be working OK.

Were you surfing the same site both times? There is a software command that will shut your system down and another that will shut it down and restart it.

Some websites try to install hijackware and spyware into your HD and may force you down to ensure you complete the installation before you detect anything. Some software installations require you to shut down and restart before the installation is complete.

Just a thought.

THAT Or your computer could be broken.

I've had that problem a couple of times in the past and in both cases the computer's power supply was the problem; so, the computer had to be fitted with a new power supply.
Yup, that is most likely the case....it is relatively easy to replace the power supply and a half decent one will run you around $60.00. Just make sure you get one that has short circuit protection in case you install it wrong or have any case/short problems.

If you've got half a brain you can install it yourself.

SHoldn't be running that hot after 5 mins. of surfing. It is not like he's putting too much demand on the processor running explorer......

the fan's running fine .I suspect its the power supply too. When I turned it on after it shut down , I heard it come on for a sec then cut out . after I waited for a few minutes , it started up as normal.

thanks for the input everybody.
