The past couple days when I try to play videos on my computer whether it be from espn.com or cnn.com or other sites the video will play but then during the video might stall for a few seconds and then continue again and then stall again for a few seconds and then continue again.

Anyone know what could be causing this?

Any free antivirus programs anyone can recommend?

If its just that site and your computer is working fine.

one of 2 things,

Your internet connection is being slow.

espn site is running slow because of all the traffic from basketball and hockey season.

See if any other video sites load slow.. Youtube is a bad idea since its been kinda shitty for months.

Even go do a internet speed test or a few to see how your connection is.

If those sites are too busy things can slow down.

Microsoft Security Essentials and Avast are the two free antivirus programs I like best for M$.

Its not site specific. The problem occurs anytime I try to watch videos on any site. The video will play fine for a bit and then stall for a few seconds and then play again. I never had this problem ever before until yesterday.

Make sure the CPU fan (and the other fans in the system), are clean, spinning, and are running on top of a clean heat sink.

The problem can be caused by overheating.

Depends how old we talking here. Maybe just a faster graphic card would help.
I heard the same thing from a computer store guy but a former work colleague said I might also need a faster/more powerful processor. Query: What in blazes is a processor?

Also, my 17" monitor is too small for HD 1080p video. I was told I need a real HD 24" monitor.

Did you change anything else on your computer, like the network connection, or move it to another location in your home? I get the same type of broken playback and it's not the video card which is really high-end. I am using a wireless connection and my system is about as far away as I can get it and still get a signal. I have to let the video download (play), then do replay to watch it uninterupted.

Let me not waste your time. I know exactly how you use your PC. Get one of these. It costs a little more but you'll be fine for at least 3~5 years.

And watch whatever you like ;)

Are you using wired or wireless connection?
Someone already mentioned updating flash
And what video are you watching? Format 480 720 or 1080
Streaming video doesn't need a super fast CPU, but you do need a decent GPU.
If your Monitor can support 1920x1080 natively you are playing at 1080P
Don't waste you $ on a iMac
If you are into Mac, then get a Mac mini and a 50" 1080p LCD, then you can sit in bed and browse terb hehe

Oh for av, ms security essential is great and it's free
