So what is the secret to keeping a relationship from going into the doldrums?

While I'm only at 4 years, I find it more and more difficult rekindling the original passion when we first dated.
In fact some days I wonder if we're even right for each other. While we share common values, we have dissimilar interests. Thankfully we're not married...just common-law.

Try to include her in your activities.
Do not use her disinterest as an excuse to search for love/lust and/or otherwise somewhere else.

Try to find things that are different but that you both enjoy. My wife and I have a date night. Her idea but it is a good thing to do. Gives us time to explore each others brains and at the end of the date....explore each others body.

well...

You might explore fantasies... and some women find it hard to discuss theirs openly.

You could place a note on her pillow with a flower or something else she coud enjoy and tell her about your fantasy and then ask her to write back... its a creative spark but can be fun.
