Rats, I'm going to miss this one unfortunately. Anyway, I'm going with Castillo on this one. Castillo's just a bit of a more rounded fighter imho. Their first fight was damn good but Corrales, with his huge heart and raw power, gave himself the chance to get lucky and he did. I don't expect it to happen again though.

The big question is wether Showtime is offering this fight in Canada? I couldn't believe the second fight wasn't available and never aired here!

Corrales sure makes awesome fights, but i don't view this as a true rubber match because I don't believe Corrales legitimately won the first fight. There is no 30 second time out in boxing - certainly not twice in one round! When he chucked the mouthpiece the second time, the ref should have called it a retirement.

The postponement will be a major advantage for Corrales, it gives him much more recovery time than he had from the first bout. It also made Castillo go through the weight-dumping regimen for nothing, and now he has to repeat it, almost one year after he was supposed to move up in weight. Both guys struggle to make 135, but I think Castillo is more overdue for a move up.

Even so, I expect Castillo will win if he can resist the urge to get it over with quickly. While Corrales technique improves with each fight, once he's buzzed and fatigued, his chin tuck and guard begin to degrade, and he reverts to bringing his right foot parallel and losing the knee bend. Well timed counter lefts can drop him on queue.

Expect controversy when the urine tests come back. Castillo's camp says they've hired a "Nutritionist" to help Castillo make 135 safely. You know what that means: in boxing, Nutritionist is code for a guy with a weight loss drug thats believed to be undetectable.

At this time, I'll go with Corrales. Although, that may change, as the fight night nears. My sense is that Corrales is a smarter boxer. I agree that spitting out his mouthpiece was a cute trick, and he should have been 'counted out' for it. Showtime fights are available on some satalite dish receivers. Sincerely, Jon .(writer's edit, 05/25/2006: spelling, 'Shotime' changed to: Showtime.)

You need to have either Direct TV, Dish Net or an FTA to watch it. TSN only has rights to show HBO fights, thus the reason we never get any Showtime fights on tape delay.

I agree that Castillo is the better all around boxer, but is having all the trouble in the world making the lightweight limit which could wreak havoc with his power and stamina. I'll say Castillo TKO in 8.

Hopefully the winner moves up and fights Hatton or the winner of Cotto/Malignaggi.

Nobody really knows if weight battle will seriously impact Castillo this time. But it's worth noting that in the mature part of his career, Castillo has never faded in the late rounds of a fight.

As for 140, nobody really knows whats going to be left of these two once they're done with each other. So far it looks to me that Corrales has been much the worse for wear, but Castillo may not be in the clear either, the combination of Chico's power and perhaps one too many "draining camps" will do him in as well.

Although I like return matches, it would be a pitty if both of these guys were finished for fighting each other, or suddenly became unable to focus on a different opponent.

It would really be a shame if Castillo didn't have a couple of years left. His recent years have been amazing, fighting Johnston twice, Mayweather twice, Corrales 3X, plus Cassamayor, Diaz & Lazcano - the whole Top-6 of his era! He probably owns an unaknowledged win over Mayweather and the closest thing to a clear W over Cassamayor.

*****

Incidenatally, has anyone here seen Paul Malignanni? Judging by his low KO percentage and caliber of opposition, this looks like a huge mismatch. Can this guy box like Whitaker or take punch like Pryor? What's the deal?

Seen him a few times. Very technically sound fighter with great hand speed and pretty good accuracy. Lacks punching power and doesn't really sit down on his punches, so a lot of people are picking Cotto to walk through Malignaggi and eventually knock him out. If Malignaggi has a good beard, I think he'll really give Cotto problems.

If you go to www.boxingtalk.com and click on fights, you can see a couple of his early fights for free.

Update

Frot those who haven't heard, THE FIGHT IS OFF.

Castillo fails to make weight - the closest he got was 139.5 lbs.

In hindsight, it was a dumb idea to try another fight at 135. 2 brutal training camps and nine months wasted for both guys.

Disappointing...

According to: boxingtalk.com , Castillo was 'supervised' during his training for the fight by a WBC official and after failing to make the(135 lbs)weight limit, was fined $225,000.00(ouch!). Sincerely, Jon .
