I've only done normal vacations in Costa Rica, but this forum is full of info. What I do know is San Jose and Jaco beach are the two main areas for mongering. From pics I've seen, the talent is better in other parts of Latin America.
While you're there I highly recommend checking out Manuel Antonio beach and Arenal volcano.
