Was comparing Crave vs. Shomi and man oh man does Crave kick Shomi's ass. So many better programs on Crave (Band of Brothers, Sopranos, Rome, etc.).

BUT, of course, I have Rogers and am stuck with Shomi. :frusty:

*Sigh*

Crave ain't bad in terms of selection.

The user interface sucks ass though. Honestly looks like it was programmed by the CEO's 20 year old nephew while on Red Bull and Bud Lite.

You need a cable subscription for Crave and Shomi. Both cost extra (unless you get a deal) and are unique to either Bell or Rogers. Crave is $4/month. I have Shomi for free but I think it's more than Crave (of course! Since Shomi sucks!)

Netflix doesn't require a cable subscription but you must have internet access. It costs about $8/month.

The cable companies are tying to stop the bleeding from customers canceling their cable and moving to Netflix or other internet viewing so they created their own versions.

Are there any alternatives to Rogers or Bell, for standard daytime TV? My GW likes Ellen, Dr.Phil, Dr.OZ, and that crap.

Depends on where you live, but a lot of that stuff can probably be picked up over the air. I'm not sure of the antenna technologies nowadays though, maybe some other people have info on that.

Not sure about the programmings. Besides Rogers and Bell, there's also Shaw TV. (http://shaw.ca/shawtv/)

There are also outdoor/indoor antennas you can purchase and install to pick up over the air (OTA) broadcasts legally. These antennas are available in HD capabilities and you can pick up some good American network broadcasts especially if you live near the boarder, from cities like Buffalo.

Antennas are a hit and miss because you're subject to geography and position and all. I had one a couple of years back and felt like it was 1983 with channels 2 to 13 just in really crisp HD. I found my solution in an Android msia player, installed Kodi and have lots of movies and live sports streaming. I am just glad people are finding new ways for entertainment and not giving money to Rogers or Bell.

If the draw of Crave (ie. Sporanos and other HBO shows no longer in production), consider Amazon Prime if you can tweak your ISP to be American. The tv, the music service and the book a month on legit usage rather than pirate, plus free delivery, made it worth the $100 per year cost. Yes, many of the other shows are what Netflix has, but Amazon is starting its own production, too. I'm a political junkie and enjoyed the John Good,an "Alpha House" done by Amazon.
