Up at the Ex's for Xmas, bought my son a new computer. They have Cogeco. I believe they are like Roger's and throttle back the downloading speed from BitComet/Torrent sites. Does anyone know how to change the porting to open it up. These dogs, also limit your downloading/uploading to 10 gigs for light and 60 for standard. I like my sympatico as it is unlimited and I get better speeds. Thanks to all in advance. Happy New Year!:)

Depends whether or not you can get into the router itself 192.168, etc.
I don't think you can though, I tried it back in October at a friends in Oakville.
She had crazy ass speeds for downloading, maybe it was because the torrent was hot.

I know portforwarding via Rogers' modems can't be done, tried it at my Aunts.

Apparently they only enforce the download/upload limits if you're abusing them. They're more concerned with the upload than the download. From what I've been told by a techie at Cogeco, they don't throttle. If you're abusing the system, they'll suspend your account instead. :D

So do they charge if you go over or send out a warning? How do you patch your "emule"? Does this slow down the uploads? Thanks!

It's very, very rare for them to charge. I don't know if they ever do. They give you a warning, then I think it's a 3-day suspension, then a week, then a month, etc. They figure the suspension will give you the message. I don't think they ever cut you off completely.

Once you get on their blacklist they monitor your limits more closely though.

Like Keebler said...they cut you off for a bit after a couple of warnings....
I use a patch callled Dazel...it stops the uploads completly or limits them..your choice......

Thanks for the help. I am glad I don't have Cogeco. Downloaded on Standard Sympatico DSL the same thing I was trying to download on Standard Cogeco. I had approx 180kbs, best I could get on Cogeco was 20kbs downloading the same Torrent. I don't think I would ever get cable for high speed. On everything, it seemed slower.

just use utorrent and make sure you enable encryption

Good advice. I was getting terrible DL speeds. Switched to UTorrent..no problems now!
