I sometimes watch movie clips off sites like Thehun.com, and if it is a "wmv" it plays in Microsoft Media Player.

However, if it is an "mpg" or "mpeg", a warning comes up
"A website wants to open web content using this program (Quick Time) on your computer - Does not have a valid digital signature". No matter what I do at this point, it opens in Quicktime.

How do I get "mpg"s to open in Microsoft Media Player all the time. I have gone into Control Panel, Default Programs, Associate a file type with a program... and set up the mpg and mpeg with Media Player...

Its not working... what am I doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

File associations are only intended to be recognized by Windows, not various web browsers. What you want to do is change the MIME type of the various video formats to use WMP instead of QT. In Firefox, you would do this as: options, content, file types, manage. In Opera: preferences, advanced, downloads. Internet Explorer, in typical fashion, doesn't want you touching anything, so you'd need to hit the registry: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type.

Fun, right? The best option in my opinion is to install VLC Media Player, which is free like free beer, free like free speech, and plays everything under the sun:

You should be able to go into the options in Windows Media Player and select which files are associated with it.

Tools > Options > File Types

The file associations probably changed when Quicktime was installed

Strangely, this advice worked. Strange because I had tried this before, but when I looked at it again, it stated that only 27 out of 36 items were defaulting to Media Player. Thanks for the help guys.
