i have downloaded the file its a iso file. How do you open it and load?
Put it in your CD/DVD drive and open it if it dosen't autorun on its own.
Then run the verification check to make sure the ISO file is error free.
Then if it comes up good follow the wubi directions.
It will auto install on its own, then tell you when its done.

it was downloaded from the net, no cd version.

I have removed avg and mcfee. And downloaded trial version of one care. All I have to figure out is why it won't do window updates.

You have to burn that ISO file to CD, it then becomes your install CD.
Follow the directions for doing this on the Ubuntu Home site, it's not hard.
They even give you a progam for download to use for this purpose if you need it.

Get rid of onecare from Microsoft. I've serviced so many systems where that peice of crap has locked their systems up.

Install Windows defender and let it do it's thing. It sounds like a Trojan or Worm on your system. You may need to get professional help to remove or redo your system that way your files will be restored properly.

Thanks for everyones help. Even Calloways I was almost going to do, throw it against the wall.
Now I have time for a little fun!!!

That's another advantage linux has, there is no registry!
You don't have to worry about the registry getting farked up.

While everything is running nice now, it's the perfect time to put linux in either with 'wubi' or as a dual boot. That way you will have two OSs available to use and can safely surf the net worry free, learn linux at your own pace and you still have Windows for backup.

I have joined Launchpad and ordered a CD copy of ubuntu. When it arrives I will give it a try. Just the fact that I can safely download music and applications with out worrying about getting trojans or viruses.

With Ubuntu you don't have to download any apps, they already are included.
All you do is install the extra ones you want.
They're all free.
