Anyone have any insight? I am going to get a Dell because it fits my budget. But I know little to nothing about all the specs listed below them. I need space and dvd burner (i think they all have that now) I know some people think they suck but for someone with not a huge budget they seem great. Any help advice or info is appreciated

A link to the specs would help.
Prices vary according to specs.
I'd prefer Toshiba, Lenovo, HP to Dell.

That's a pretty good price with the 3 yr warr on a laptop with decent specs.

Pretty much all PCs come loaded with garbage programs now.
You can get www.pcdecrapifier.com (it's free) run it yourself to remove all the junk they throw on them.
thanks It seemed reasonable enough to me. heck right now I don't even have a dvd burner (which sucks lol)

I bought a Compaq (HP) from Best buy for my girlfriend last year, the same time my son bought a Dell. They seem very similar in cost and specs.

With 2 gigs of RAM and being a dual core AMD that laptop shouldn't be slow in spite of running Vista which is a real resource hog.
I was looking at Toshiba with a little quicker processor (2.0 vs 1.8 in that Dell) but the rest of the specs were the same for the same price only it didn't come with a 3 yr warr.
For another $100 I could upgrade and get 3 gigs of Ram, an Intell Core2 duo processor and a 250 GB HDD. That one was quicker than the AMD in that Dell you were looking at.

With all PCs you have to keep up routine maintenance or crap accumulates while running Windows that bogs it down. Doing your routine PM will keep a PC running like new as long as you have it.
My 10 yr old Pent II still runs like new runing XP & linux.

That maintenance you mentioned is really important. My laptop reached the point where it was taking 10 to 15 minutes to boot and load all the startup programs. I formatted and re-installed and it's now up in 75 seconds.

Nothing wrong with Dell provided you get the upper model, don't recommend AMD, get Intel duo core 2 if you can, at least 1 GIG Ram, most are coming with 2 now, about 150 GIG storage for all your pics and videos, lol. They should all come with a DVD burner now. Dell is highly recommended by businiess schools now, but the business model only.

Toshiba is waaaaaaaaay over rated today, use to be the standard 10 years ago, but I had a lemon the last few years, never buy one again. Many people have complained about HP's, so I would stay away.

Lenovo, former IBM, is best bet, but pricey, worth it in the long run. My 2 cents, confusing????? lol

oh, stay away from SONY, way over priced a lemon too. Apple is a good one, more confusion.
