What you don't seem to see that the problem with using these cheap batteries is not just that your notebook can catch fire or you burn your desk, coffee table, or leg but that heat shortens the life of computers. Dell doesn't what you to be able to service or upgrade your computer. they only wan't you to keep buying new ones.
OK so now Deal claims they stopped using these cheap SONY batteries of which SONY is sharing responsiblity for warranty replacement costs along with Dell.cdog said:

How do you check for heat in a laptop, via the CPU?
I mean, I thought the only heat you can feel at the bottom was coming from the battery.
Intel's coming hard at AMD because of the market chunk they stole from Intel the past few years (mainly in N.America).

That would be a first. In my 20+ years in the business, I've always found that Intel's process yielded "hot" chips (not just in performance terms). Rule of thumb: every 10 degree celcius rise in junction temperature halves the life of a chip. I've seen 3 Intel CPUs die, never once an AMD CPU. Now I grant you, this may not be a statistically significant sample (or maybe it is), but it wasn't the fans fault - they were still running OK.xdog said:
