The man was found to be shot 12 times in the body with a low calibre gun. An autopsy showed no drugs or alcohol. He appeared to suffer a mental illness, and his wife complained about his behaviour. He had grabbed the tree branch and was using it to hit passing cars. The officer came upon the scene, and that' where the video starts.
So he killed him because he had a stick? The cop didn't have pepper spray or a taser? Clearly the guy was in some kind of mental distress and the officer doughnuts emptied his gun into him? Lucky the perp wasn't black.
The officer didn't have back up and was under direct threat of serious bodily harm or death. It's a legit kill.
I would have shot him. Maybe the fact that the guy was twice his size. The stick was twice his size and the guy was homicidal is a clue. Or he could have calmed him and talked him down. Could have gone either way. lol. 12 bullets to the chest and the guy's only reaction, apart from finally falling down was "Damn"
Cop needs a bigger gun.
Whoever approaches a cop pointing a gun at him has a death wish and is a legit kill. This officer is entitled to come home to his family without checking whether pepper spray beats a stick.
Cop tased him, but the maniac just laughed at the voltage and became even more manic. So the cop had to draw his gun.

You are probably not a gun owner and do not know if the size (caliber) of a gun really matters.
Bigger in my mind is one that doesn't need 12 bullets to drop an attacker. Like, after watching the video and a gun salesman asked me "would you like one of those the cop was using?" I would ask "do you have something bigger?" and he said "No. That one should be fine". I would probably say " I think I need a bigger one, just to be on the safe side".
This is what I thought as well. He was an old man with a stick. Couldn't he have been taken down physically? Or what about walking away and calling for backup?

The cop was a chubby old man. The attacker was a fucking brawny hulk in full attack mode. Walking away and calling for backup is an option conjured up in you own little world.
The attacker was far from being a frail old man. The stick was far from being a harmless stick. Maybe the cop just got bored with the conversation they were having and wanted to move on with his life.Too bad you weren't there to show us how to with this situation.
He could have been taken down. But I get it officer doughnut couldn't walk 10 feet without huffing and puffing.
