I used to have a 'grey market' Direct TV Satelite and I had a guy who could boot up my card everytime it went down. About 8 months ago (?) they came up with a new card that no one seemd to be able to break the code.

Any updates or is my satelite and receiver trash... Should I consider Rogers Cable or Bell Expressview? Which one is better.

Anybody have the 411

It is easy to get grey-market DirectTV in Canada. I have had grey-market for many years. Black market is when you get a hack and steal the signal, grey market is when you are paying for the programming, only the CRTC is unhappy. If you get a DirectTV guide a magazine store, there are ads for providers who register you as a US user.

Brown market is when you pay a lot of money for a Satellite box and you end up getting nothing but SHIT!

So. . . let me get this straight. .

My Direct Tv is trash. . .

Expressview and Rogers are both crap. . .and

Dishnet is supposedly an equal alternative as expressed from a guy who seems to be shouting and calls himself 'Hott'. .

anyone else care to chime in?????

. oh well. . .<sigh>

I miss Tanya Memme... Dave's little Slut!

The chicks on Dish Network are too classy and just don't have that sluttiness of Tanya!

Both Dishnet and ExpressVu will be unhackable within 8 months - they are sending out new cards just like DirecTV did.

Unless you already have the right gear, it doesn't make sense to hack in right now. For what it costs to get started, you can subscribe for the next 8 months.

I was reading a blog on this and apparently is you can get a virgin card direct from the card manufacturer and have the one private key (algorithm) you crack it for life. If the card has ever been used or handled by DirectTV or any manufacturer it is almost uncrackable. Something about the same level of encryption as Blowfish ( www.schneier.com/blowfish.html ).

So far there has been no hack for Directv. A lot of people like to BS about one or say there is one but they are not releasing it yet. That is the dumbest one of all cause if there is one, why would anyone wanna hold out and not cash in on it? Right now the only thing working for Directv is a P5 sub which has no PPV. I am running one at my place along with Expressvu and Dishnetwork.

I've always preferred Dishnet over Directv anyways, you get much less down time. When I moved into my apartment my dishnet system was up and running for 2.5 years before I had to reload my Rom3 card. I also have a backup Rom2 card that has been up for the last 5 years and will probably stay up till they swap out the cards but has no PPV.

The cards will be swapped out eventually for Expressvu and Dishnetwork. Expressvu will probably be the first to have this done cause their client base is not as big as Dishnet. Just in case anyone is wondering, Dishnetwork and Expressvu hardware is interchangable. Meaning you can use it for either system depending on the model # of the receiver.

FTA

I can also get Free To Air systems as well too. There are other alternatives besides using OEM equipment such as Blackbird, Pansat, Fortec and Dreambox.

I have been testing out a dreambox for the last 6 months. It is a european based system and doesn't use any cards. You just flash it via serial port. It is a great system that can record shows on a hard drive and you can network it to your computer and burn it onto a DVD too. You can log into the unit using a webbrowser from a remote location such as work and schedule shows to be recorded if you forgot to do it. Aside from doing that, you can also change the channel or see a screenshot of what your kids or a loved one may be watching at home.

These aftermarket systems are great but require you to know a bit more about computers. Maintaining it would be very difficult otherwise.

Well guess I'm one of the lucky ones because I've been using Direct Tv with pay-per view for a while now with no problem. By doing a google search with legit companies, you can get Direct Tv working without a problem. For me, it's who you know in the Sat biz. As for Dishnetwork, I know people who have it and aren't pleased with it due to many factors such as programming the card, receiver problems, channel selection and lack of, such as football ticket and other US channels not offered that are available with Direct Tv.

I was looking at getting a Dream Box since it will most likely be the first kid on the block to do Nagra-2.

What do you have a DM 7000?

Here is the German site for the Dream Box:
http://www.dream-multimedia-tv.de/Bereiche/Produkte/DM7000.php

Here is a site I found that covers the Dream and others... good info here: http://al7bar.tk

I think the coolest feature of the Dream Box is the fact you can connect it to your LAN and stream the video content to all your computers and record unlimited programs to hard drives in the Dream or any computer in your LAN.

ORIGINALJOECOOL.. you are absolutely full of shit ! There is no hack for DTV period at this time.

FTA is the way to go because not only can you pick up Bev and Charlie but you can pick up just about any other Satellite in the air. I find testing FTA is actually easier then playing with the cards. Basically, attach reciever to PC and upload patch, change keys.watch tv .

I have also heard that there is a file floating around that allows certain Fta units to decrypt Nagra2 programming for a few minutes at a time. The fact that it is able to do this leaves me to believe that the future of Nafra2 testing will be solely with FTA units.
