Do you usually tip your hair dresser?

I don't but today when I had my hair done and was about to pay, the receptionist asked me "how much would you like to tip?" Without knowing what was the appropriate amount and in anxious, "2" i said. Then I saw a list on the table that records the amount of tips customers paid. 10, 10, 2. LOL
OH boy was I embarrrassed. I told her that because I come here for the same dresser every month, so I don't usually tip. I thought $42 was already a lot of $$ for a guy's haircut, especially for a student. What would you do if you were me at the moment and do you tip?

It IS a lot of money for a guy's hair cut. Unless you're getting something extravagent done, like a perm? Colouring? Whatever the devil the next step beyond a trim is.

As for the question at hand, I usually tip two or three bucks. Then again, the last time I paid for a haircut it was $12.

it was just for haircut, nothing else. I hate searching for the right hair dresser so I usually stick with the same one until i feel it's time for a change.

I pay 18 bucks for my haircut but give her 25 'cause she is smoking in a Brittany Murphy type of way and I'd like to tap her ass!

When she leans in close and snips I get so horny.

I pulled my goalie the other night thinking about her and I being in the shop alone at night and me putting the stones to her in the chair.

In my own little warped and silly mind I think I have a chance.

Never gonna happen ... but the illusion makes me feel good ... for now.

I would tip but would not go back to a place that begs for tips. I think it is rude. Granted, I always tip when I get my hair done but still think it is rude.

Always tip, unless you are unhappy with the service provided.

Its a service, right? You wouldn't go to a restaurant and not tip the server.

15% of the total fee, is standard.

Agree, asking for a tip is class less.

but you don't go to the same restaurant every month, do you? Also what we pay at any restaurant is for food+service. whereas for haircut, the amount I paid was for service only. leaving tips sounds redundant.

For the last 10 years, I have tipped... usually results in a great scalp massage!!

What I do not see a need for is tipping at a fast food place (KFC, A&W, Subway)

Tip is voluntary.
She told/ask you for tip? I never go back like other say.
I pay 9 - 15 for hair cut and I get one evey 2 months. I may add 1 - 2 extra but no more. Try the hairschool for a hair cut if you go so often they should do it for 10 or so. I hear sometime it's free because no one else go.
Warning to the ladies don't go there. Unless it is a simple haircut. Anything else is dangerous.

You pay 42 bucks for a hair cut?

Are you really a girl?

I recommend you go see Mario my barber who cuts my hair for 11 bucks.

I always tip him another 5 on top of that cause he probably spends about 20 minutes or more, so I figure he should be charging more.

Where a service is provided a tip should be given if you are happy with the service provided. I think I said that already..but, it bears repeating.

And to answer your question yes, my girlfriend and I do frequent certain restaurants on a regular basis. She's high maintenance
Again, I tip for the good service not necessarily the food...tipping is not optional at the grocery store, right? :)
If you bought shampoo at the hair salon without getting your hair done...you wouldn't tip, would you?

I pay 12 bucks for a haircut, tip $2.00. At Christmas I give the barber a carton of his brand of cigarettes.
Learned this from my father. When I was a kid he paid 75 cents for a haircut, and tipped a quarter. Used to give the barber a carton of cigs at christmas.

I take great offence to the use of the term hairdresser to describe the person who gives a man a haircut. Go to a freaking barber. Not Supercuts but a real barber, a crusty old guy with a striped pole outside his shop and 3 days worth of un-swept hair on the floor. That is the only person who should cut a guy's hair. He should charge between $7 and $12, although if it's $12 you have the right to feel a bit overcharged. Aveda = Gay. Or possibly metrosexual, but of course we all know metrosexual = gay. Even the trendiest, coolest, most successful and self-confident guy should go to a barber shop. That's just the way the world is!!!! Tip $1 - $2.
