Does anybody care about women's hockey?

[Fun For All]

Occasionally you'll get a Ok game in the Olympics from Canada-US, the rest of the tournament is pretty dull...the leagues don't appear to be interesting...yet they complain about lack of funds, respect. etc...

It's not very entertaining hockey, especially when you compare it to the male game.

Does anybody actually go watch it?

The NWHL announced Wednesday its plan to run a condensed 2021 season and Isobel Cup Playoffs beginning on Jan. 23 and wrapping up Feb. 5 in Lake Placid, N.Y.

The only womens hockey worth watching is really only at the international level, and even then, only Canada vs. USA games. Otherwise, I turn the channel pretty quick. I can see the same skill level or better at the pee-wee tourney in Quebec City.

To me, like I believe the NCAA national championship team would easily beat the Grey Cup champion, I think the pee-wee tourney champs would beat virtually any women's team other than the above. #sorrynotsorry

I don't know about peewee...when the Canadian Women's team is training in Calgary they often scrimmage against Calgary AAA midgets.

I believe it. That's why I said the pee-wees would likely beat virtually any women's team other than the CDN and US national teams. For that, I agree....it'd probably take a Midget AAA team.

I do/did. Got out to a bunch of Furies and Thunder games, and was looking forward to seeing the 6ix. One of my teammates from minor atom was Laura Schuler, former national team member who's been a head coach at a couple US programs.

Good for you to support it, I have no problem with that.

When they disbanded the leagues in protest for a living wage among other things, I wondered where they thought the money was going to come from...gate receipts/TV?

I do not have interest in Women hockey. I barely watch men's hockey anyhow.

But I watch a lot of women's soccer. Mostly because I am a soccer maniac and watching beautiful women's healthy legs turns me on haha

Well you figure Haley Wickenheiser gave it a go playing in Men's pro hockey in Sweden and Finland in the 3rd tier leagues and was overmatched.

And she's considered the best female player of all time.

Yes the caliber of play is low but personally I love the intensity of an American/ Canadian game.

There's real animosity out there which leads to a really exciting product.

So yeah I've watched my share of women's hockey and will continue to do so.

Good for them...but it's been on TV before here in Canada and hasn't done a lot of the popularity...this won't be the same as Canada-United States hockey, it'll be a notch or two below that...

I believe the wnba is a cash drain on the NBA but they are screwed because they have no choice but to support it. I think women's sports need a element of sex appeal for men to watch.

I'm pretty sure that female sports draw a much smaller audience than male sports. I remember someone saying that the only fans in the stand watching women hockey are families and friends.

A few years ago, I looked up the live and virtual (TV) fans watching Wimbledon and the males clearly outdrew the females by a large margin, however, the females shared the same prize money because it is only fair.
