IMHO, they were the ones who started the ball rolling on the depression.
They made gas so expensive that the schmos making 8 bucks an hour with a 100 year $500,000 mortgage could not afford both. Something had to give.

"They" like to fuck us with gas prices because we keep buying it and are too dependent on it for our liefstyle not too mention the demand worldwide in developing countries is feeding an ever higher global demand vs. a lower controlled supply by OPEC and other greedy assholes.
Let's just look at gas sales in Canada:
2008
Est. Canadian Population = 33,000,000
Average Cars / 1000 people = 459
Est. total cars = 15,147,000
Sales $ in Canada / month = $12,117,600,000
Sales $ / Cananda / year = $145,411,200,000
GREEDY ____________ (I'll leave it up to you)
Even if every driver in Canada decided to purchase $500-$800 less per month ($9600 for the whole year) on gas we would hardly put a dent in worldwide sales and hardly effect the price at our pumps here.
In my opinion it woud ultimately force the dumb ass car companys to produce more fuel efficient cars. But guess what they will just charge more for the cars because you get better millage and saving money on gas!!!
Make a choice - I am sick of hearing everyone whining about this and then do nothing about it. DRIVE LESS & save approx. $5000-$10,000 / year.
