American accused of sex with minors

Conrad Gallant, aged 61, a tourist from the city of Boston, who supposedly travelled frequently to the Dominican Republic in order to have sexual relationships with minors, was accused yesterday of sexual tourism and promoting prostitution outside of the USA.

Under Federal law, Americans who travel abroad and have sexual relations with minors or adults with whom they promote prostitution can be arrested and charged on their return to the United States.

Gallant was arrested in the Dominican Republic and extradited to the United States. If found guilty he faces up to 30 years in jail and a fine of US$250,000.

The lady will always have a cédula (ID) with her as anyone without it could be suddenly deported to Haiti.

Most hotels and resorts will hold the cédula securely at the reception desk for the duration of her visit or stay (or make a photocopy), then if there is any trouble they can simply hand it over to police.

This is not an offense one is likely to commit by accident. Sadly there is a demand for underage girls and boys (of ridiculously young ages) and as a result of there being a market for it, it is pretty commonly available as is anything else to do with this industry.

Oddly it is more challenging in the Dominican Republic to find a pineapple than a prostitute. It is not uncommon for me to import a Canadian lady so the locals will leave me alone
