A Fire Starter: Plugging Into a Powerstrip
The Oregon fire department isn’t the only one sharing space heater safety tips. The Toledo Fire Department in Ohio also issued a similar statement after a house caught fire due to the misuse of a space heater. The heater caused the couch to catch fire and quickly the entire house was up in flames. (2)

Space heaters can reach up to 600 degrees Fahrenheit, so it is crucial that everyone who uses them does so safely. (2) Their tips include (2):

  • Never plug into a power strip, instead always directly into a wall unit
  • Keep a minimum of three feet of space around the space heater at all times
  • Always keep an eye on your space heater while it is in use, never turn it on while sleeping or in a different room
  • Place heaters on level, flat surfaces
  • Never put heaters on cabinets, tables, furniture, or carpet

I don't get the deal with the power strip, at least not if it has a built in circuit breaker. Never plug anything else into that power strip, though...

In a place far, far away
1) Laptop
2) two external monitors
3) sound system - sound bar and sub woofer
4) JBOD enclosure
5) HEPA and UV filter

Sure of course I don't use a power bar because the outlets in my home comes with a 10 plug outlet.

If you are going to plug in a space heater to a power bar don't leave it unattended, get a quality one rated for high output appliances. There are space heaters which have anti-tip features.

What kind of heater that plugs into a 120 volts outlet puts out 600 watts F.

My stove only puts out 450 - 500 F.

You are confusing heat and temperature.
Heaters with open coil elements ( the element is a coil of wire strung through porcelain washers) run a dull red colour, which is at least 600degF. These heaters depend on a fan to cool the element and transfer the heat to the room. Most do not have a high limit cutout, but will have a tip over cutout.
Built-in fan heaters on the other hand use tubular elements (like the surface elements on your stove) that run black only and have a high limit cutout that is set between 170 and 190deg F to shut off the heater if the internal temperature of the heater exceeds the limit.
Both can be the same 1200 watts. They don't cost the same though.
You oven may only heat to 500F, but it still has two 3000 watt elements in it that will turn red.

A space heater should always be plugged into a wall receptacle and on a dedicated circuit.
