This is an actual lecture on Sept17/2007 held at Carnegie Mellon University.
It's more than an hour long but I recommend anyone to watch it in full......if you have not yet seen it. I am sure some of you must have heard about this great person. My prayer is with him.

If you have an hour and a bit to spare, I strongly suggest that you spend the time to be enlightened. For those who get teary eyed easily, pls prepare your box of Kleenex.

Okay it was a lecture from the heart and humourous but I felt it was a bit self indulgent. "Look at me and what I've done."

It's great that he's dealing with death well but it's not like he's the only guy dying of a terminal illness.

However, I will say that it's a sweet sentiment. Guess I'm saying I have mixed feelings about the attention this guy has gotten.

Yes, I agree with you if you just watch his lecture. However, if you go on his site and read about the other stuff.......

I don't think he's here to talk about his accomplishments. The lecture was for his kids when they grow up down the road. Imagine his kids watching the lecture 10 years later?

Well if it's for his kids then video tape it, save it on disk and give it to them. The idea of leaving something for your kids is an old idea and a great one..... making it public reeks of something else.

Holy crap Frank.. when did you get so cynical? You used to be the guy who figured he could marry a hot MPA... and now all I see is rampant cynicism! A sad day indeed!

Personally, I enjoyed this immensely. In a day when people get into crap like The Secret or Tuesdays With Morrie, I found this incredibly great. Thanks very much civic82!

I just read the transcript, I don't think I could sit through the video. I don't think he did it for attention the way some have suggested, it seems totally consistent with the way he conducted his academic life - with a lot of passion to communicate and reach people. It is not how you or I might do it, but a guy like that would. There should be more professors like him.

Totally disagree with what you said. Please put yourself into other's shoes. He is a Professor. He was giving a lecture in his university. He did not go out and seek a lecture deal to give his thoughts. If it wasn't for the Internet, no one other than those at CMU would have noticed it. Maybe you didn't find the lecture inspirational, but at least you could give credit to a guy who was fighting his death with some humor and humanity.

Maybe it's just me........

I am always so weak and soft with those dying moments.....you know, like the movie "Notebook". :(
I have three kids myself, too. I went completely berserk at the end with the second head fake. Couldn't help but think the reaction the kids will have the first anad subsequent times watching it.
