We’ve seen a decline of about 18% in Canada and the same in Ontario since the peak in 2021. Are you going to credit Trudeau, Carney, and Ford for that?

I work in a field adjacent to heath care and EMS. The gains made here have largely been due to increased circulation of naloxone through pharmacies along with awareness and training campaigns. Plus regional task forces proactively monitoring the drug supply for fentanyl spiking.

But sure, let’s make it about fewer browns getting through the border. 🙄

Looks like it was lowest during Obama's term and started going up during Trump's term.
It again started declining during Biden's term.
But then again Phil doesn't know how to read graphs, which is a well known phenomenon on the board.

We're discussing the US in this thread though.

And how do you explain fentanyl overdoses drastically going up under Biden's term, when Narcan was widespread available in the US as well??

Hey guys, help me out... did something happen in 2020 that may have increased drug overdose deaths?

I'm just visually scaling, but it looks like we're _maybe_ back to pre-covid levels, though I don't know what the circles and the black line are, because they diverge in Jan 2025, also for some unknown reason.

Nevermind.... I found the answer:

Call this the Trump effect.
Except for 5 States all US States saw overdoses plummet.
Former NYPD sergeant says securing borders had 'a lot to do with the drop.

Read and weep, Lefties :D

Just one more reason he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize. Glad it's currently in his rightful hands. 🥰

I can only speak to what I know in our own jurisdiction.

Naloxone was always widely available here too, it’s the additional protocols and awareness that have made an impact.

That said, the trajectory across both periods is quite similar in both Canada and the US. In fact the very chart you’ve posted shows the decline began while Biden was president so this isn’t the “own the libs” win you think it is.

Correlation does not equal causation.

The rise of fentanyl along with increased opioid use through the pandemic was a trend across the western world. It being treated as an epidemic across all levels of government and using the same levers we would for a virus is also something that we saw in many jurisdictions.

The decline began under Biden only in the last year of his presidency.

And the reason for that was his poll numbers were down and Biden then began tightening up the border because Dems thought he might lose the election on lack of border security.

If fentanyl overdoses keep dropping over the next 3 years then you Lefties will have to give Trump some credit, but we all know you wont though

I’m not here to play your tally one up for my team nonsense on an escort review board.

Just merely sharing my knowledge as someone who has worked closely with EMS who understand the contributing factors to the trends.

All you’ve shared is your inability to read and interpret a graph beyond a single dubious piece of information you’ve extrapolated to fit a narrative.

You would only reach that conclusion if you have no clue why people were dying in the first place. People were dying because of mistakes made in cutting the drugs by the dealers. As you can imagine most of them are not Walter White. Kill their clients and bad news in many ways. Notice no one talks much about cracking down on cocaine any more. So I suspect the ones that died were the most clueless and non-expert drug users. So they are now mostly dead. What you are left with are more careful users, and also dealers that have improved their processing and QC. Also the broad distribution of antidote pens has made a HUGE impact. If you can show me Fentanyl is less available, then I will consider your point valid.

Crazy that all of a sudden, no more boats from Venezuela are being pulverized...

And Trump`s is busy funnelling the money from Venezuela`s oil to his own interests in Qatar.

First of all, I didnt quote you in my previous post.
Second of all, you are doing exactly that, you appear to be tallying one up for your own team

Just merely sharing my knowledge as someone who has worked closely with EMS who understand the contributing factors to the trends
Which is irrelevant because Canada =/= the US

All you’ve shared is your inability to read and interpret a graph beyond a single dubious piece of information you’ve extrapolated to fit a narrative
If you cant see that under Trump OD deaths averaged around 60,000 to 70,000 and under Biden they average around 100,000 to 110,000, then its you who cant read graphs
