In a photogs chat group I just read that Missouri will only let people buy two lithium batteries at a time because they can be used to make drugs...WTF?!

Lithium is sometimes used to treat depression. It's a bit nasty because the level of lithium required to treat the disorder is typically only slightly less than the level that's actually toxic, so overdose is a very real problem in lithium treatments.

And of course, like any other drug there are potential side effects.

More specific, Lithium is used against Manic-Depressive Illness.

It is also the source of the beautiful red colour in fireworks.

How the heck do they seperate the lithium out from all the other toxic stuff in the batteries? Wait, considering what some of these guys look like, nevermind.

I was under the impression they used Lithium Oxide in batteries.
I could be wrong though
Lithium Carbonate is used as a drug for depression
Lithium is one of the elements. It is the Lithium Ion Li+ that is the active ingredient.
