A 26-year-old dad is charged with impaired driving after police nabbed him in a Tim Hortons parking lot with his 3-year-old daughter in the backseat.
After slamming into a cab at 9 p.m. Sunday night near Salem and Kingston Rds. in Ajax, the man allegedly took off with the Beck Taxi driver trailing behind him.
"The female cabbie followed right behind him and phoned fellow cabbies and police for help," said Durham Regional police Sgt. Paul McCurbin.
As he pulled into the strip mall at Harwood Ave. and Kingston Rd., it's alleged he fled from his car.
But the tenacious cabbie pointed out the driver to cops arriving on scene.
NO SEATBELT
Police arrested the man and when they checked out his Honda, they allegedly found his 3-year-old daughter sitting in the backseat.
The girl, who was uninjured, wasn't sitting in a safety seat or wearing a seatbelt, police said.
It's alleged he had twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system.
The man, whose name isn't being released by police, is also charged with failing to remain at the scene, dangerous driving and abandoning a child.
The Courtice man expected to appear in Oshawa court this morning
