Every time I try to burn Video on a Dual Layer DVD disc, it burns fine but when I insert the newly burned disc into the DVD player to view the video stuff I just burnt, it is not recognized by the DVD player (which is new). Am I doing something wrong?

Video Files, such as TV programs downloaded from a Torrent site. If I burn them on a regular DVD disc, it plays fine. Take the same file, burn it on a Dual Layer DVD and nothing once you try to play it on a dvd player.

If this is a standalone DVD player, it won't play avi, wvm, mpeg or mpg video files.
The files have to conform to the standard for DVD playback: vob files.

If your DVD player plays DivX, it should play wmv and avi files. If it doesn't then your DVD player will tell you it does not recognize it. I have used dual layer and single layer and never had a problem playing either in my DVD player that plays DivX. I don't understand why anyone would use dual layer, ( I won't again), they are about 3 to 5 bucks a piece and I can buy a 100 4.7G DVD's on sale for 15 bucks for a 100 discs.

Yeah, but alot of movies nowadays are coming on Dual Layer discs full of all that extra unrated content and crap.

It should state on your DVD player if it supports DVD-DL or DVD-9, and all the types of supported medias...

The fact that you burn the same file leads me to believe that your player is not compatible with dual layers.
And the fact that it can read DVD-RW or DVD-4, or even dual layers from shops, doesn't mean it can read burnt dual layers... unfortunately

Dual layer discs are flakey compared to reg DVDs, there is a thread on the topic in this section , its mainly due to the layer marker .... I have had relatively good succes with DL discs, but I've only burned in the low teens , had about 3 failures, 1 disc that I burned on my Pioneer stand alone recorder plays fine in some machines, but wont recognize in others,,,,,

How to burn Dual Layer Disks

It sounds like your dvd player does not accept dual layer media. check www.vcdhelp.com and type in your dvd player to see what media formats it accepts.

You can sometimes fool dvd players into accepting dual layer media by bitsetting the disc to dvd-rom but your dvd burner has to support bitsetting and you can only bitset DVD+R DL discs.
