Hey folks, what is your experience with burning CD's and DVD's?

1) Other than capacity, are CD's and DVD's the same in quality and durability?

2) I burn FUJI CD's and RIDATA and VERBATIM DVD's, are they good brands?

Verbatim is considered one of the better brands, and their DVDs have always worked fine for me. Having said that, I think just about everything is made in Taiwan these days.

Based on my experiences, the one brand to avoid is Memorex. They may have made OK tapes back in the day, but their discs are a problem, particularly their DVD-RW discs. I would also avoid Fuji.

the only DVD discs I have had a bit of trouble with were Philips
I have never burned a coaster with Fuji, Memorex, Maxell, Ridata or others I have tried but can't think of.
I have burned over 1000 dvd's
I always use DVD -R for best compatibility with home machines when I make movie discs for friends

I do not use RW discs, simply because of how cheap burn once discs are

TAIYO YUDEN is considered the best media.
Sony or Verbatim DVD media are considered the next best right now.
The real problem seems to be, DVDs don't last as long as CDs. There are many reports of DVDs failing to play/open a couple years after being burned. Most likely these failures are due to cheaper quality media used.
In this respect CDs seem more forgiving and last longer than DVDs.

Where in this fair city can we buy TY DVD's? I'm surprised that CD's are more forgiving than DVD's.

media can be bought online here, http://www.blankdvdmedia.com/?gclid=CKbN47bBu5MCFQE0xgodUFcOHw

as far as cd more forgiving than DVD, it's becasue the laser is finer( more precise)for dvd than it is for cd I was told
My friend repairs electronics for a living, he will often get a dvd player in fro repair that will play cd's but not dvd's, its usually because the laser is weak, or sometimes dirty.

You can also get a good variety of TY online here:

Also heard the finer laser used with DVDs which allows 10X as much data on DVDs compared to CDs plus DVD burners for PCs are not as good as commercial grade DVD burners, is the reason DVDs you burn yourself don't last that long.
