I can burn both JPEG and Video on a DVD using my computer. Here is the problem. My DVD player can play the JPEG but not the video. Why is that?

sounds like your DVD player doesn't have the video codec required to play the file. are you trying to play the video on your standalone DVD player? or on your computer?

if you download VLC player it should work fine on your computer.
If you need it to play on a standalone player you might need a newer model with more codec support.

multisession dvds might not play on your DVD player. It is reading it as a picture disk or movie, but not both.

Thanks guys, this is more complicatef than I thought. Here is some additional information.

I have two cameras. One shoots video in "AVI" and the other in"H.264(Quicktime?)". I can download both to my computer without any problems. I think I can burn both to a DVD using my computer. Then I insert the DVD into my DVD player because I want to view the videos on my HD 40" TV.

Maybe I'll try burning just the video (no JPEG) on to the DVD disc and see if that plays on the DVD player.

When you "…burn a DVD", you're burning files onto a disc that is labelled DVD because it's capable of holding and playing DVD content, that is a file or files configured the way the player wants them to show you a menu with choices, and let you pick the ones to play. That does not make the disc you burned a playable DVD. Not even when we all call that disc "…a DVD".

Look for software that assembles and converts your stuff into DVD format which you then burn. iDVD is the app that Apple bundles free with their machines, and there are free downloadable apps on the web.

One more question. Does a high definition video (1280x720) take up twice the space on an SD memory card as a VGA video (640x480)?

It can even be higher depending on other properties of the video like the overall length, codec used, audio quality, etc.

more often than not it will be more than double the size.

ideally what you really need is a media streaming device, they are not too expensive and you can stream via wifi ANYTHING you have on your computer to your HD TV
plus you can plug in external hard drives and use USB flash drives or memory cards in most.

Western Digital Live, Boxee Box are excellent for that purpose as well as many others

you can do away with the need to convert or burn anything
