I had a first-gen Kobo. Advantages: e-ink technology is easy to read and the screen is matte-finished so easier to read outdoors. Also nice and light. Disadvantages: slow as molassess to load and turn pages. Buttons felt very cheap quality.

Currently I use an iPad2 and love it. Yes it's pricey but it can do more than just hold books so when you get tired of reading it's easy to flip over to a game or browser. Shiny screen makes reading in sunlight difficult, but I don't tend to read regular books in the sun either anyways. Plus with the iPad I am not limited to just buying books from one location.

Had I not gone with the iPad I would have bought a Kindle product as friends of mine have them and are very satisfied with them.

Just get an iPad. You will soon regret the limitations of a plain-old reader, if a Kindle etc is all you get.

I have a second gen Kobo and love it. The touch screen is easy to use and it is way faster that the 1st gen. You also have to look at the books available to it and Chapters/Indigo has a huge selection. It is also super cheap when compared to an Ipad.

Once you get an IPAD, you will be hooked for life.

+1. Now that I have the iPad I'm finding I am starting to use it for more and more things. Starting to also regret getting just the WiFi only version.

Kindle is a fantastic dedicated e-reader, iPad as others have mentioned is a great multi-function device..... both use the Kindle store so that's not an issue.

If you travel at all you'll never go back.

Ditto... And thankfully I did get 3G. I downloaded the kobo app and buy from indigo and like it better than iBooks. Lately I've been downloading thru the library which uses overdrive. It's too bad that you can't read ebooks from the library on kobo, because overdrive is not as good as kobo.
