Its Michael Stadtländer's restaurant in Singhhampton, Ontario. It is rated amongst the Top 10 in the World. Has anyone been there? I am interested in going.

Truly exceptional in every way. I've been a couple of times over the years. I understand that you now need to reserve roughly 6 months in advance to get a table. It's only open on weekends as I recall, and you dine in what is - the rest of the week - their living room. Quiet rustic and pretty in a farmhouse kinda way (be prepared to meet the kids and pets). No liquor license, you bring your own with you. It's a hell of a drive from Toronto, and you wil be drinking and eating for quite some time, so plan on spending the night nearby or having a driver take you there and back.

The food changes each night and is all made using ingrediants from the farm, so it varies by season as well. they will let you know several days in advance what is on the menu for that evening. There is NO choice in the matter by the diners.

Flat rate for dinner, whihc the last time I was there was $140 per person is memory serves.

Hope this helps.

Thanks dudley

for the excellent review

My only concern is that I have dietary restrictions (I dont eat meat or fish) so I dont know if it would be worthwhile...sounds really interesting tho!

If you don't eat meat or fish it definitely is NOT worth going. The soups use either chicken or beef stock in general and usually at least 2 of the courses would be local meats, such as chicken, pork, lamb or a game bird.

Here is the number to the farm 1-579-922-3128 just in case you need this also the address Eigensinn Farm RR#2,Singhampton,Ontario N0C 1M0.
This is one of Canada's best Chefs and I'm sure he can accommodate your dietary needs. As most chefs are concerned you only have to express your dietary need and they will start a culinary journey for you.It may be tough for you to find your comfort level with many restaurants but do some searching in Toronto Life and other publications like that and you will narrow the field.
As for eating at the farm house be prepared for a rustic but extraordinary dinning adventure.

Eat what you love and love what you eat.

Out and about.
The whole Stadtlander experience is a serious one - Dudley's right. It's about $300 for 2 - no wine because no license.
If the thought of a fixed menu concerns you, there's another chef in the city with an equal reputation for creativity and originality - it's Susur Lee. Probably the best restaurant in the city- Susur - it will provide you with a different experience from most others around with an original eclectic menu rivalling the best in the world. Susur was the owner of the former "Lotus"which was at one time the only 5 star restaurant around. His numbers in the book.
Cheers.
