He is replacing the iconic blue bird with a black "X". Kind of symbolic of his persona and the destruction of a brand. I liked the twitter logo: cute, clean upbeat. Replacing it with a sterile, cold "X" is a representation of Musk's persona. He has destroyed twitter, allowing far right scum back on, charging $8 a month to become "verified", driving away half of its advertisters. As much as I hate Zuckerberg, I was rooting for Threads to take off and send Twitter to bankruptcy. I no longer own Tesla stock, and it's such a huge relief, knowing that none of his antics can affect my portfolio.

He will back down on this in a couple of days. Just like the limit to the # of posts you can view without paying some kind of membership fee also died quickly.

He's an idiot.

Poor Linda :ROFLMAO:

Hi team,

What a momentous weekend. As I said yesterday, it’s extremely rare, whether it’s in life or in business, that you have the opportunity to make another big impression. That’s what we’re experiencing together, in real time. Take a moment to put it all into perspective.

17 years ago, Twitter made a lasting imprint on the world. The platform changed the speed at which people accessed information. It created a new dynamic for how people communicated, debated, and responded to things happening in the world. Twitter introduced a new way for people, public figures, and brands to build long lasting relationships. In one way or another, everyone here is a driving force in that change. But equally all our users and partners constantly challenged us to dream bigger, to innovate faster, and to fulfill our great potential.

With X we will go even further to transform the global town square — and impress the world all over again.

Our company uniquely has the drive to make this possible. Many companies say they want to move fast — but we enjoy moving at the speed of light, and when we do, that’s X. At our core, we have an inventor mindset -- constantly learning, testing out new approaches, changing to get it right and ultimately succeeding.

With X, we serve our entire community of users and customers by working tirelessly to preserve free expression and choice, create limitless interactivity, and create a marketplace that enables the economic success of all its participants.

The best news is we’re well underway. Everyone should be proud of the pace of innovation over the last nine months — from long form content, to creator monetization, and tremendous advancements in brand safety protections. Our usage is at an all time high and we’ll continue to delight our entire community with new experiences in audio, video, messaging, payments, banking — creating a global marketplace for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities.

Please don’t take this moment for granted. You’re writing history, and there’s no limit to our transformation. And everyone, is invited to build X with us.

Elon and I will be working across every team and partner to bring X to the world. That includes keeping our entire community up to date, ensuring that we all have the information we need to move forward.

Now, let’s go make that next big impression on the world, together.

Linda
Elon destroyed the brand, and now is now ditching it completely. Big mistake. He overpaid for Twitter to begin with, but what he bought was the brand. Now he's throwing it in the garbage. What a genius. So glad I sold my Tesla stock. I'll be laughing when he sells more Tesla stock to fund X, and sends Tesla to $100 again.

About the only thing I thought clever about Twitter was the premise of short 'tweets', thereby forcing a tight, edited meaningful message. The whole bird tweeting theme was brilliant branding, congruent with the fundamental premise of the platform. The blue coloured bird represents a refined, vibrant, positive, friendly and trustworthy forum..

Edit: Hmmmmm..... so after reading what I wrote above... Elon is actually a genius in branding! What better symbol to represent his crude, negative, societal battlefield full of lies and bullshit than a BIG BLACK X?

Elon sure has the leftists agitated, lol.

Personally I like the old logo better but he's always interesting to observe what he is going to do next.

I love the fact that guys who couldn't hold his jockstrap continually rail on him.

Some business analysts think he may be planning to add on the the platform similar to a Chinese and Indian app that has financial transactions as well. It would also explain his little involvement in crypto currency.

If he does the whole model changes.

To his credit, he did reverse that horrible self-sabotaging decision.

My website has my Twitter posts integrated into it, so I can tweet about discounts/new firmware/new products/etc... and those visiting my site will see it. When Elon blocked views without login that part of my website broke. Changing the feed to Instagram or another social media site was on my at the top of my todo list. But now that Elon reversed his decision, it is still on my todo list but the priority is much lower than before.

No, "X" is the perfect re-branding for Twitter.

"X" is the icon for closing an app.
"X" sounds like "ex" as in "my ex, the person I broke up with"

And I'm fairly sure Microsoft owns the patent for "X" specifically for e-commerce, so Musk's screwed himself out of expanding Twitter into monetizing the platform for selling things way Facebook has its Marketplace.

IMO, Twitter never had a viable business model from the start. I get that ads drive the service, but it has little utility on its own particularly for businesses. Anything you can do on Twitter you can do on any other platform. Facebook and Instagram were like this too in the early days, but they've gradually changed that over time.

X could also be a prequel to the XXX movies with Vin Diesel.

He never bought the "brand" he wasn't even a major stock holder...he never liked where the company is going...twitter could value zero tomorrow and Elon loses 40 bi and he'd still be a top 10 richest guy in the planetl....not a big fan of Elon myself but i don't get the hate the guy is getting...haters would trade to be in his shoes in a heartbeat...LoL...

I don't think so. To be in his position entails so much public scrutiny that few have the balls for it. He bought Twitter out of being forced to. He ran his mouth, and then tried to back out of the deal and got sued and forced to buy it. The freedom public town square talk is just some political nonsense he is pushing. But yes, he did buy the brand. Brand value is a thing. Why else do you think Tesla is so overvalued despite not even being in the top 10 (and I think top 20 as well), auto makers in the world?
Wrong...he did get forced to buy it when he tried to back out. nobody forced him to offer 44 billion for it....get your facts straight...
