Sorry my friend. Being a blues player myself, I'll tell you the following. I'm going to get blasted for this but here we go.
EC is a great player but is just very boring. The whole Clapton is God thing was blown out of proportion. His solos are all the same and ever since he kicked his habits, he's become a adult contemporary artist.
BB King is in fact the King. I'll give him that. But he's also turned into a pop version of the blues.
If you want to listen to some amazing blues players:
Marc Ford (formerly of the black crowes) - this guy is the most underrated players out there. His phrasing is impeccable.
Stevie Ray Vaughan - Never played the same solo twice. Music just flowed out of him. I'd say he really was Jimi reincarnated. I don't think we'll ever see someone with his level of talent ever again. But then again, the said that about Jimi.
Muddy Waters - probably one of the most copped blues musicians ever.
And don't forget Robert Johnson. If he were still alive, BB would be a nobody.
