Environment Police Want To Reduce Car Ownership Because EVs Are Not Enough

A consortium of California university professors and the Climate Community project say that more EVs alone will not solve the climate crisis. They are coming after your car.

Please consider Achieving Zero Emissions with More Mobility and Less Mining.

A crucial aspect of electrified transportation is new demand for metals, and specifically the most nonreplaceable metal for EV batteries—lithium. If today’s demand for EVs is projected to 2050, the lithium requirements of the US EV market alone would require triple the amount of lithium currently produced for the entire global market. This boom in demand would be met by the expansion of mining.
Large-scale mining entails social and environmental harm, in many cases irreversibly damaging landscapes without the consent of affected communities.
If today’s conditions are projected to 2050, US EV demand for lithium alone would require triple the amount of lithium produced today for the global market
This report finds that the United States can achieve zero-emissions transportation while limiting the amount of lithium mining necessary by reducing the car dependence of the transportation system, decreasing the size of EV batteries, and maximizing lithium recycling.
Increasing mass and active transit as well as keeping passenger vehicles smaller makes for safer communities. Reducing the size of passenger vehicles also can make the roads far safer because smaller cars have fewer and less severe crashes. Making bus routes, metros, and electric bikes faster, safer, and more convenient will disproportionately support low-income and non-white community members—who are more likely to live near high traffic areas and bear the environmental health burdens of relatively poorer air quality compared to higher-income and white counterparts.
The Climate and Community Project’s 2022 report, “A Green New Deal for Transportation,” outlined just such a vision for a green, environmentally just mobility network, with specific recommendations for public policy and programs to transform the US transportation sector.
Ultimately, climate, transit, and Indigenous justice can be aligned.
We Want to Reduce the Size of Your House Too

Our findings show that reducing dependence on private vehicles, densifying low-density suburbs while allowing more people to live in existing high-density urban spaces, and improving EV efficiency and reducing battery sizes are the most effective pathways to reducing future lithium demand.
Maximal Justice

Don't kid yourself. This vision is precisely what President Biden, the socialists, and the Marxists want. If you want the same thing, then vote for Democrats in 2024.

Ownership of ICE cars will eventually be banned like sales of new
ICE cars. Ownership of any type of car will be reduced because EVs
are expensive and will remain so for majority of drivers.

Weaned off of the automobile? So what if that's one of the reasons the current situation is so dire? Me still want car:cry::cry::cry::cry:...

I think there is a reasonable chance Trudeau's ban on ICE vehicle sales
by 2035 will be lifted. By 2030 the world will have realized rising CO2
level has taken climate change beyond the point of no return. By then
ICE vehicle ban will be meaningless and too late. We may as well expedite
depletion of Earth's remaining fossil fuel resources to make the most
of the joy ride to climate catastrophe.

LoL. You and your friends are unable to distinguish between a scientific conclusion and a a prohibition. Please point to any law or regulation (and I am not nit talking about zoning or planning which is entirely different) restricting the size of houses. Etc. Just more of your fear mongering about the Dems and.

By the way do you disagree with that conclusion as a matter of science?

There is no doubt that Canada and 5he worlds are moving away from ICE vehicles. 5hat is probably a good thing but there has been zero infliction in JT banning ICE.

The elites flying to Davos in 1000 private jets have decided that the regular people can not be allowed to drive cars.

Exactly!
these elites and Hollywood types and pricks like Trudeau fly all over the place with a massive carbon footprint but the middle class family bares the brunt !!

There is no doubt on my part the entire world are moving away from
pretty much anything powered by oil without being aware of it. Sooner
or later the world will find out in the hard way why banning ICE cars is
preposterous--they won't find enough oil to burn for existing ICE cars
through the transition to EVs anyway.

Not to mention the transmission infrastructure for electricity.

Who is talking about banning as opposed to transitioning. By the way I agree with you but notwithstanding what people say on the campaign trail once elected power imposes a certain realism and pragmatism.

Sales of new ICE cars and light trucks are to be
banned by 2035. If the ban is to remain in place into
the future it will be equivalent to a total ban on ownership
of ICE cars and trucks by the time all used ICE vehicles
are worn out. Looking to the future like half a century
away gasoline and diesel will likely be consumed by
mostly heavy duty vehicles, freighters, trains and airplanes
on a tiny fraction of the volume today. Electrified public
transport will be what the mass relies on for daily commuting.
By then probability of passing by a EV on the road will
be comparable to catching a Lamborghini while driving
on the highway today.
