Escort Agencies and Trafficking

I recently saw some news that made me wonder if escort agencies in Toronto make any efforts to check that the girls who apply to escort with them are doing so of their own free will.

There is the possibility that an escort joins an agency because she is being abused by someone in her life and being forced to bring home the money she earns.

The thought of visiting an escort in this position and being oblivious while I am with her, is extremely terrifying and nauseating.

As part of the hiring process, do agencies either verify (not sure how) or at least direct the new escort to support resources on the off chance she is in that position? Anyone know?

As an aside, is there any kind of outreach that SW support orgs offer to agencies and the women that work for them?

To give you an honest answer, some agencies don’t care. Some do.

Those who are involved, will notice pretty quick if the girl is not in it if her own free will. I know if a few agencies who help ladies escape abusive relationships. Some give the girl a place to stay in the condo, even Mirage was offering their condos to girls who couldn’t afford a place or got kicked out during the pandemic. I can easily see Mirage kicking ass of an abuser if they found out one of their girls was being abused.

Other agencies don’t care and wouldn’t know because they don’t pay attention, but those are not any escort agency that I see advertising here on TERB

I do remember Mirage offering their condos, and I thought that was so fantastic.

I can understand that not all agencies are managed in a way where their staff have the bandwidth to pay close attention; that is probably the reality of the situation.

I just hope the women who are being victimized know where to find help. Effective help.

Appreciate the response!
