There are from time to time hobbyists or clients who will want to book an escort for a night out, dinner and a movie or a business function of some sort, that type of thing and not ask you back to his room after. Few and far between though I think. If you wanted to get into such a business I suggest that you get yourself a website and then advertise your website. Don't expect too many calls though. It depends on how much you charge, if you charge $20 a hr, some people might try
if you charge like $80 a hr and I have to pick up the tab on top of that, and you can't amuse me intellectually or physically

Well, it`s all about demand and supply. I don`t think there is such a big demand here in TO, as most escorts provide some sexual service. In the US, however, since sexual outcalls are illegal, there is a much greater market for social escorts.

generally you don't want to embarass any body
i'm not talking about a "session" involving anything sexual, strictly for social companionship, therefore, if someone did recognize your date, there wouldn't really be anything awkward. and the chances of ending up in the same social group would most likely be pretty slim.

If you took an escort out on a business function and your boss has been with her I highly doubt that he would admit this to his employee. I think his greatest fear would be in the first initial moments of recognizing her. He would probably wonder if she would reach over and say ohh hi how are you etc..
But anyone involved would most likely keep this to themselves. The escort recognizing/knowing both men would not want to ruin this occasion for the man she is with nor would she want to ruin her reputation. If anything were to come of this I would imagine the mans boss would give him a raise and be friendlier in the end just for knowing that they share something in commom.

Yes..it's quite easy for a lonely man to go to a strip club, pay for a few dances and persuade the dancer to sit and have drinks with him all night. For someone who only needs a companion for socializing, this idea would probably work. I'm not sure how you'd pull off bringing an escort to business/company event.
Imagine the potentially awkward questions you might have to answer, especially if your boss or client knew you had come in from out of town solely for this event/function. Unless you want to pass off your escort as a Significant Other, then you'd have to explain how you managed to rustle up a date with such ease. Met this gorgeous stranger in the hotel lobby/Quiznos/shared a taxi from the airport and she had nothing better to do tonight? Even if you were forthright and answered that you had **hired** her to accompany you for tonight, I'm sure the someone's brain will be running in high gear at the thought of it.

You know, despite all the people saying that an escort only for companion ship would not work I see no reason why it could not work. It is all a matter of how you market and develop the idea. That is what an entrepreneur does, s/he identifies a market and develops it. And enterpreneurs are often told that their ideas will not work. The world is full of people who have made careers out of crazy ideas.
With an idea like this one you have many factors that work against you, as has been noted by the posters in this thread. This can also be seen as a positive. As a result of these factors there are few others in the field. I would suggest that you research the idea. There are traditions in other cultures, the Japanese Geisha for one, of intelligent, cultured women who provide non-sexual companionship for men of wealth.

It might work BUT to be honest unless it's lot cheaper than a regular sp why would a guy want it. If you are good looking and a guy has enjoyed your company the natural thing afterwards is you know what.
