The Green Bay Packers come out smelling like a rose with what ESPN has reported "an open competition at QB."

What's going to happen now?

Is it a true competition or only buying time to trade Favre later on as Shack suggested in my original post.

I present this train of thought: If Favre still 'has it' why not trade Rodgers instead and get better value?

They have Brian Brohm ('08 2nd round out of Louisville) waiting in wings. If Favre will play one more season after this one, will give Brohm a chance to be 'groomed' while getting better value for Rodgers.

This will not happen but it's the route I'd take.

So how is this really going to play out?

The reason they wont trade Rogers is because he was the draft pick of the General Manager groomed to be Favre's replacement.

If they want to be really cruel to Favre for putting them in this mess, they should release him the day of their opener against the Vikings and watch the drama ensue.

I am not a Favre fan so I blame him for all of this and excuse me if I dont buy this "he has the right to change his mind business". He used the last 4 years manipulatiung fans and media into giving him attention over the will he or wont he retire bullshit routine. He thought the club would beg him to stay and when they didnt, he retired. Boo hoo. All he had to say was that he wanted back at the end of the season and they would have had him as the starter.

I never bought into the view point that Favre played the game like a kid who just loved to play football, until now. He does play the game like a kid as if he were a spoiled brat who whines when the attention isnt on him. That wouldn't be so bad if he were 12 but he is approaching 40. Grow up and act like a man - make a decision and stand by it and dont come back just because you have some selfish itch that has consequences beyond just yourself.

By the way, Brett Favre gives them the best chance of winning? What exactly has he won in the last 11 years? Give the General Manager credit for turning a team around to 13-3 last season, where in the previous two seasons to that, everybody said the Packers would be on the bottom for several years due to salary cap issues. Bret may have been a part of it but he was not the sole reason for the turnaround. They also had an easy schedule.
