As usual I have no link but I hear that unless very serious conservation measures are instituted soon the internets supply of links may become exhausted.

Apparently Scroll99 and other uncreative souls have been using far too many with no regard to conservation. Speaking from his estate in England Sir Paul McCartney said " fug 'im then". When asked to elaborate he told reporters to " ger stuffed".

Word has it that Bono is launching a world wide appeal asking rich nations to give up their links so people from poorer less developed countries can have more. When asked why, if he felt so strongly about the poor in the third world, he did give up any of his links, Bono replied " what's that yer saying lad, use me own links, 'ger stuffed"

Speaking at the UN , the usual lefty subjects blamed George Bush. They feel that if Bush wasn't such a controversial person then their gang of slavish devotees wouldn't need to link so much. The concept of having your own thoughts and not simply parroting the leftist dogma did not occur to them.

So please, in the interest of saving links for future generations, conserve. Or is that conservative !!!!!!!

define 'link'

Okay so I'm low tech when it comes to internet lingo speak. By link I mean the url reference that Scroll, AG TOV et al like to put as thread starters.

The combinations of URL are infinite. They could be reffering to the fact that getting a good URL these days is tough, because so many are taken. It's a nonsense type issue. I never saw Bono as an idiot until now. What he should really be spending his celebrity on, if he wants to help mankind, are more worthwhile causes like the Greenland Ice cap meltdown. This is going to displace 1/2 of Bangladesh, and roughly a few billion others over the next 45 years. We are talking here about a seven meter rise in sea level. Then there's the tundra meltdown, both on our side and the Russians. The straights of the bearing sea have risen 10Deg Cel in the last 10 years, salmon stocks are depleting at awsome rates in the alaska fishery....then there's the Brazil rain forest...add in the coral bleaching... lol..yet he is worried about 3rd world access to URLs... what a mellon head.

This is one great addition to the clueless posts done by my friend.

Its nothing to do with the links ... Its the IP Addresses experts are talking
about. The combination of Links ( URL ) are infinite.

Here is the actual context:

The point in time when IPv4 addresses would have been completely allocated (and hence no new networks could have attached to the Internet) was the subject of considerable debate. Based on current trends in address allocation, the estimates of the two leaders of the IETF's Address Lifetime Expectations working group were that addresses would become exhausted in 2008 and 2018 respectively [Solensky 1996] . In 1996, the American Registry for Internet Number (ARIN) reported that all of the IPv4 class A addresses have been assigned, 62% of the class B addresses have been assigned, and 37% of the class C addresses have been assigned [ARIN 1996]. While these estimates and numbers suggested that a considerable amount of time might be left until the IPv4 address space became exhausted, it was realized that considerable time would be needed to deploy a new technology on such an extensive scale, and so the "Next Generation IP" (IPng) effort [Bradner 1996], [RFC1752]was begun. An excellent on-line source of information about IPv6 is The IP Next Generation Homepage. An excellent book is also available on the subject [Huitema 1997].

Definition of IP Address:

An identifier for a computer or device on a TCP/IP network. Networks using the TCP/IP protocol route messages based on the IP address of the destination. The format of an IP address is a 32-bit numeric address written as four numbers separated by periods. Each number can be zero to 255. For example, 1.160.10.240 could be an IP address.

Within an isolated network, you can assign IP addresses at random as long as each one is unique. However, connecting a private network to the Internet requires using registered IP addresses (called Internet addresses) to avoid duplicates.

The four numbers in an IP address are used in different ways to identify a particular network and a host on that network. Four regional Internet registries -- ARIN, RIPE NCC, LACNIC and APNIC -- assign Internet addresses from the following three classes.
# Class A - supports 16 million hosts on each of 126 networks
# Class B - supports 65,000 hosts on each of 16,000 networks
# Class C - supports 254 hosts on each of 2 million networks

The number of unassigned Internet addresses is running out, so a new classless scheme called CIDR is gradually replacing the system based on classes A, B, and C and is tied to adoption of IPv6.

Will eyeslam control "links"

I didn't realize earlier just how desparate the "linking" situation was becoming, it would appear that hoping we can last until 2008 was being overly optimistic.

The postings during the last 5 days on TERB are a perfect example of just how grave this is. US experts have been studying the problem but are unable to get bi-partisan support for a solution. This alone is troubling since America has so far led the way in " sustainable link useage" and the UN is hoping they can clear up their differences. Speaking under a guarantee of anonimity one UN consulatant admitted that they fear the take over of indescriminate "linking" by religious extremists. The Economist had an article explaining that various Middle East countries were planning to pool some of their excess oil revenues to develop their own "links" system. It is troubling that something so widely used as the internet could become dominated by religious dogma. Sheik Yerbouti was quoted as saying " our growing "link" system would soon replace the infidel system of the American Zionists. Praise alla we will wipe them from the earth."

The Economist tried to reach Sir Paul McCartney for comment but could not locate him in Newfoudland. A confused Bono was reported to have said that " Sheik Yerbouti can ger stuffed ".

It remains to be seen how this crisis will unfold.

... the end of Links as we know them

Both BushI and BushII have stated that the United States will refuse to deal with issues involving Linkage in the international community. Maybe we'll soon see a rise in Link related terrorism in response to the non-action of the Imperialist Link States.

Just say no to the UN

This is just another UN operation. The gentlemen at the UN are desperate to become relevant and they want to take the internet naming registry from the Private Entrepreneurs that run it. They could then tax you for the privilege of linking to the system. Personally I don't want the UN running anything. They F@#k up everything they touch.
